Overhauled!

 
Driven by disappointment caused by decline in Page Rank plus anxiety over oh-so-many things, I have decided to do an overhaul with this blog! Have you noticed?

The new header looks neat! Those photos of flowers were taken by yours truly during our trip last year to Eden’s Park in Davao City. Actually, I have been planning to revamp blog’s look for quite some time now and I did work on a header but it was hideous and it will never see the light of day. Ever.

Going back. I do not know what to do with all those photos and I think that it is fitting to use them here. I also used an overlay from Fei-Fei’s Stuff’s Some Stuff Template No. 9. However, I do not feel confident about the entire work yet. The borders feel constricting, don’t you think? Or maybe I just can’t get over with the light and clean colors of the previous layout yet.

Anyway, this will do for now. Blogger has been acting up since last night and I not want to mess up with it.

What’s in a (Toy’s) Name?

I have this thing with names. Some of my friends even courageously allow me to name their kids. How fortunate on the part of their kids, right? Right. However, it is a different story when it involves my kid’s toys. Do your kids name their toys, too? Do YOU name their toys? I do. Just for the heck of it. Haha! And most often, I find the most ludicrous-sounding name I can ever think of at that time. It usually frustrates my daughter when I do that. It annoys her to no end. I am that kind of parent. Mean. Hahaha! And since I already gave the toy a name before she does, it becomes the official name no matter how hard she convinces us to use a nicer name.

Well this toy, I named Be. I can’t remember right now the reason behind the name. As usual, my daughter was disagreeable upon learning about it. So she tried coming up with a better name. And her take? Cutie Be. How… original. Hahaha! 

So let’s call him Cutie Be in this post. Cutie Be is a coming home gift of my mom to my daughter. We have been arguing on what kind animal Cutie Be is. I thought it is a raccoon, or skunk. Or even a bear. I even emailed a photo of Cutie Be to my husband just to ask him for a guess. We have been busy finding an answer that we failed to see that what we are looking for is right in front of us, written on the tag attached to the toy’s ear. Cutie Be is a red panda. And a real red panda, looks like this:

OK. That indeed looks like Cutie Be so I won’t argue and insist that he is a racoon. According to Wikipedia:

The red panda (Ailurus fulgens, or shining-cat), is a small arboreal mammal native to the eastern Himalayas and southwestern China. It is the only species of the genus Ailurus. The red panda has been classified as Vulnerable by IUCN because its population is estimated at fewer than 10,000 mature individuals. Although red pandas are protected by national laws in their range countries, their numbers in the wild continue to decline mainly due to habitat loss and fragmentation, poaching, and inbreeding depression.

How sad. I hope there won’t come a time when all that’s left to us are plush toys like Cutie Be because we, humans, have not help preserve and protect their kind from extinction.

The Sign of Love

During our commute late this afternoon, my daughter and I had a chance to ride with three students who happen to be deaf and mute. Oh, if they could only express verbally! I would love to eavesdrop listen to them as they exchange stories. They were discussing, sharing stories using their hands during our short ride. They were being noisy silently, if there is such a phrase.

They remind me of our short sign language class some years back. I cannot remember the lessons but one sign that stuck in my memory is this:

And I did not even pick that up from our class. :)

How Do You Reward Yourself?

One of the things that I usually do after a hard day’s work is to reward myself with some treats. I usually stock up on chocolates and chips. Or the husband brings home some chocolate bars for me. Recently, I added chips as I like to eat something sweet and something salty.

Nostalgic

Yesterday, my husband and a brother in-law, Mark remembered the days when they applied for university admission and scholarships when we visited Mark’s school. They recognized the new courses offered to the various universities as well as the new admission scheme which was not practiced during their days. The even recalled the need to declare if their family owns a car, computer, TV, speakers home theater system, among others when applying for scholarships. It was indeed a trip down to memory lane for both of them.

As a part of our itinerary yesterday, we dropped by my Mark’s university yesterday to inquire about their MBA admission exam and enrollment. It was unfortunate though that the office is closed though we were half-expecting it being a national holiday. But just the same, he toured us around the place. We usually pass by that area whenever we go shopping at Duty Free in Clark but it was the first time that we stopped there and had a tour at UP Clark. We also asked for UPCAT application forms from the security guard who was on duty. The boys intended to give the forms to their cousin who is about to graduate from high school this school year. Reading through the application forms made them nostalgic. And though I have not filed application to UP, part of my job during my past employment is the distribution of those forms, so I felt nostalgic as well. Hehehe.

Rainy Days and Tuesdays

The downpour has been heavy since yesterday but we woke up with no rain at all though the skies are cloudy. My girl ran down the stairs for breakfast while I was brushing my teeth when MIL informed her that classes were suspended today. I checked my mobile phone and found two messages saying that classes are indeed cancelled.

Aaah. It is a good thing that I have not taken a bath and shampooed my hair yet, going back to bed and catching more zzzs was not that difficult. So that’s what I did, slept in. On the other hand, my pupil read a little, played a little and went downstairs for breakfast and played some more with her small cousins. I woke up a bit later, worked on some expiring tasks and had brunch.

Gotta love looong weekends like this though I prefer spending it with the husband who left early today for work. Yesterday was a national holiday to celebrate Dr. Jose Rizal’s birth anniversary, our national hero. As the day was about to end, we (husband and a brother in-law) wondered when the next long weekend will be. We all hope that it’s soon. :)

Choices

I am very much aware of my options. I have several things I want to do tonight but it is tough to choose just one.

1. Blog (because I have pending tasks that needs to be accomplished).

2. Sleep (because I have been sleep-deprived several nights in a row).

3. Read (because I found interesting books and they are already lined up. T

   his is the reason too why I need to do #2).

4. Scrap (because I think my scrapping mojo is around).

Maybe I will try a little of #1 and then a bit of #2 before finally hitting the sack (#3). That is, if I can afford to put down the book that I am currently reading right now. But I need that good 8-hour or so of sleep to keep me going. Aaah. Choices, choices, choices.

It’s been a year since we have decided to make the big move. In the past, I find it tough to go around a place alone. Are You Ready?

School opening is two days away from us and I can’t say that we are totally ready for it. We have been busy enjoying the break that we have postponed the necessary preparations up to the last minute. My daughter and I arrived from our trip back to our first home last Thursday. On Friday, I braved the commute to the metro to meet some girl friends because D, who is from Bicol arrived for a short visit. That night, I also received some invitations for another meet up the following day. I had to refuse because it is our scheduled day of shopping for school stuff. It would have been fun seeing the other girls too! But anyway, there is no need to despair as we have two more opportunities to see each other this month and we are all so excited! But before that happens, we have to be good mommies first and help our kids prepare for another fun and memorable school year.
