Various Free Software to Download

>> Wednesday, April 27, 2011

As a blogger, I am in continuous search for different software to help me do my job efficiently. I heavily rely on a desktop blog-publishing application in posting entries and some graphic designing software when posting with photos.

Below are some free software downloads that can be useful whether you are a blogger or not:

FileZilla: It is a free cross-platform FTP software that supports FTP, SFTP, and FTPS. My friend and I are users of this and we can attest on the ease of use of this software.

FreeMind: If you are in need of a free mind-mapping application, FreeMind is for you. It is an application written in Java and it allows you to create a public map of ideas that revolve around a central concept.

YouTube Downloader: Whether for work or entertainment, YouTube Downloader is a handy free software that lets you download a video from YouTube, Facebook, Yahoo Video or Google Video to convert them into other formats. This is very useful for owners of iPod, cell phone and MP3 devices who wish to view their favorite videos using their gadgets.

GIMP: Or GNU Image Manipulation Program is a free image retouching and editing tool. If you find Photoshop too complex, GIMP is for you with its simple and user-friendly interface.

GnuCash: If only accounting was taught to us by using this software, I would have not loathed the subject during college. GnuCash is an open source free accounting software the lets you work in a double-entry bookkeeping system. My accountant friends will surely find this free software a useful tool in accomplishing their work.

WE Make the Choice

>> Monday, April 25, 2011

A good reminder that the choice between life and death, blessings and curses lies in our hands:

19 "Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, that you and your descendants might live! 20 Choose to love the LORD your God and to obey him and commit yourself to him, for he is your life. Then you will live long in the land the LORD swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob."

~ Deuteronomy 30:19-20

Krushers and Double Down by KFC

>> Friday, April 22, 2011

I have always been a late-bloomer. Trying out the not-so-new food craze is not an exemption. My brother in-law, Ted, is home and while waiting for the arrival of the husband and our daughter from the metro two weekends ago, we had these:

KFC KrushersKFC Double Down

That’s KFC Rockin’ Road and Double Down. The Rockin’ Road is not that good. The strawberry one is better, I think. On the other hand, even if I am carnivore by heart, Double Down is too meaty for me, thus, I was not able to finish it. Aside from that it has too much mayonnaise in it. Some friends suggested that I eat it with rice. Maybe I will do that next time.

Vacations and My Weight

I believe that a vacation is good for the heart, mind and body. But personally, it is bad for my weight as I find it hard to refuse good food especially when I am dining out with my family and friends. And I can’t even stick to my no-rice/ low carb diet! The last time I weighed my self was after a vacation down south two weeks ago and I already gained two kilos! I just arrived from another vacation and I do not want to know how much I gained after that trip. Yet. The husband has gained weight too, though he is denying it.

On the other hand, I think that our daughter who has been with me in our two summer trips is benefitting from all the travels and dining out. She is a tall, lanky girl who seem not to be gaining weight despite her appetite. Oh well. That’s one of the perks of being young – the privilege of eating in big amount without worrying about how much you’ll gain.

Back!

>> Saturday, April 16, 2011

Yes, I am back for about a week now though I have been slacking on my blogging. Blame it on the hangover from the fun vacation that I had. It was a good trip – I was able to meet old friends and try out a new restaurant with them. And being the slacker that I am, I did the some errands a day before my trip to another city – visit the bank for some updating of our accounts and the social security services office (along with a friend who followed up her parent’s social security disability

claims). Moreover, per the husband’s instructions, I also paid my health insurance fee for the entire year.

The ride to the bigger city is a different experience altogether. It was with two good friends and it surely was a fun ride. My stay there is memorable too and it involved meeting old friends. Upon my return to the metro, my husband and I had so much fun making new friends with old acquaintances. We attended an friend’s ordination and his first Mass. All these meeting with friends (new and old alike) involved good food. Indeed, I am in a good company!

Our next visit which will take place in the upcoming month will be a shorter one, thus, I need to carefully plan my schedule. I have to prioritize *work* over leisure which I think, isn’t a great feat. Really. ;)

Secrets to Long Life According to Walter Breuning

>> Friday, April 15, 2011

One news that caught my attention today is the death of the world’s oldest man, Walter Breuning. He died in Montana at 114. What really struck me were his secrets to longevity which are:

Embrace change, even when the change slaps you in the face. ("Every change is good.")

Eat two meals a day ("That's all you need.")

Work as long as you can ("That money's going to come in handy.")

Help others ("The more you do for others, the better shape you're in.")

And the hardest part involves death:
"We're going to die. Some people are scared of dying. Never be afraid to die. Because you're born to die," he said.

Also, for Walter Breuning, the keeping the mind and body active is imperative to long life. He said, "Everybody says your mind is the most important thing about your body. Your mind and your body. You keep both busy, and by God you'll be here a long time.”

God Whispers: Wisdom and Passion

>> Thursday, April 7, 2011

This is just one of the many emails that I opened today:
I'm giving you two things: Wisdom and Passion.  Use them.  They're partners that will work for your success.  You can't succeed in life with just one of the partners. If it's just passion without wisdom, you'll be rushing into things unprepared and ill timed.  But wisdom without passion will make you slow when you need to be fast.

To your success,
God
PS. Wisdom and passion are all around you.  Take them in each day.

How. Timely. (And I know that the Husband agrees!)

Precious Metals Investment Advisors

One of the many errands that I was able to accomplish during my short vacation is to consult a friend on how to effectively manage our savings. My husband and I have been wondering about the best way to invest our savings and during my consultation with our friend, he confirmed that indeed, investing on gold bullion is one of the safest and most rewarding financial decision that one can make.

However, it is not that easy to buy gold bullion. One must first find a reliable and respectable company to purchase gold from. It is a good thing that there is goldcoinsgain.com where interested investors like us can find not only authentic gold bullion but more importantly, advisors who are well-versed when it comes to precious metals investment. Their clients are composed of individuals, families, and institutional investors who wish to preserve their wealth by investing on precious metals.

Personally, I believe that it is important and necessary that our gold investment is backed up by knowledge and useful information of people who are well-informed about the market and type of investment we are engaging into. As much as possible, we want to succeed and we should do all that we can to achieve that.

Form and Function

>> Sunday, April 3, 2011

I visited the university last weekend and one of the highlights of my visit is meeting my former student leaders who are now serving as nurses within the area. It was rewarding to finally see them doing what they are trained to do and enjoy doing it. It gives them a certain sense of fulfillment to serve their fellowmen despite the meager pay. One of them invited me for a trip to a nearby bigger city next weekend for some rest and recreation. Furthermore, she needs to find for herself some new medical scrubs for sale in a big mall there since she can find any here.

Professionals in the medical field like her who are in search of a reliable medical uniform shop will be relieved to know about Blue Sky Scrubs. This online store carries a wide variety of medical uniform both for men and women. Aside from being durable and wrinkle-resistant, their women’s and mens nursing scrubs are stylish and the designs are up to date. Say goodbye to boring and plain scrubs because the colors and cut of Blue Sky Scrubs’ medical uniforms are made to make you look good and savvy while you are performing your noble job.
