Traveling with my Family

>> Saturday, February 26, 2011

It's our day 2 of stay here in Bicol and we are very much appreciative of how our host family has accommodated, fed and toured us around the place. My husband and I have been enjoying visiting places and eating authentic local cuisines. We are hoping that we can do more of these while we are young and strong. We do not want to wait for retirement and be dependent on some vitamins like hgh supplements before we go travel and enjoy together what our country has to offer. We admit that we may be starting a bit late but just the same, we are happy traveling together despite the meager budget. Thanks to seat sales and promos, it is possible to see how beautiful our country is and how friendly our people are.

Hello from Bicol!

Hello from the land of Bicol express and the famous Mount Mayon! My family and I are spending our long weekend here to attend an important event, the christening of a close friend's daughter named Cate. Another friend is supposed to be coming here with us but she needs to undergo some tests due to her digestive system problems.

Her ordeal reminds me of the similar experience I had some years back. I was hoping that a simple colon cleanse was the solution but it required a major surgery. Just like my friend, I was scared but it's a good thing that family and friends were there to root for me. And I know my friend, like me, will be OK because we are all here for her too.

Richmond Fencing Contractor

>> Thursday, February 24, 2011

I passed by our neighbor’s house yesterday and noticed that they hired some workmen to work on a fencing job. Upon my return later that day, I was surprised at how fast the task was accomplished. From what I learned another neighbor was impressed with the finished project and at how efficient the workmen are that she plans to hire them too, for a fencing job.

They remind me of a Richmond fencing contractor I read about last week. They are licensed and insured fencing contractors whose primary mission is to provide quality fence installation in Virginia and its neighboring counties. Whether it’s wood, chain link, vinyl or aluminum, assures it clientele of topnotch, customized enclosures. For them, there is no job that is too big or too small so contact them at 804-502-6678 for a free fencing estimate. You may also want to visit their website for more information.

Menstrual Calendar App

I have been acknowledging how poor my memory is. Thus, I need help in order to remember some details and information. One aid to the rescue is the free Menstrual Calendar iPhone application by With it, I can record my red days and most importantly, I can keep track when my ovulation days are. Knowing it is important for me since I can be temperamental. And knowing that it is caused by my hormones can be very reassuring.

Meeting my High School Buddies

>> Wednesday, February 23, 2011

I consider it a blessing to have several groups of friends. One of these groups is composed of my high school buddies. We’re a big group and we’ve known each other for sixteen years now. We know that even if we’ll be old and gray and taking hgh supplements for vitality, I know that we would still be friends. Despite our distance, despite the fact that we rarely see each other.

Some of them, I met last weekend. It was a short yet fun meeting. We had a blast taking photos and here is one taken by the Husband:

It was great catching up with them since two of them I have not seen after our high school graduation. We hope to meet again and do more catching up soon and I can’t wait!

  3. First Communion.
  4. My daughter’s First Communion tomorrow.
  5. Twitter friends. They keep me sane. All the time.
  6. Online work.
  7. A trip this weekend to the land of Mount Mayon.
  8. Cate’s baptism.
  9. The long weekend with my husband, our girl and some close friends.

  11. Again, my Twitter girls. They are the craziest bunch but I love them to bits!

Health Benefits of Almonds

I have been craving for almonds for almost two months now. I did try searching for them at some local grocery stores but since all I found were chocolate bars with almonds, I settled for those instead!

I just hope that unlike peanuts, almonds do not cause acne because this morning, I finally chanced upon roasted and salted almond nuts at one grocery store.

Finally! I bought a pack to try and it’s good. Definitely, I will be going back tomorrow for more.

Anyway, I did some research on the health benefits of almonds and here are my findings:

  1. It lowers cholesterol.
  2. It regulates blood pressure.
  3. It helps prevent cancer.
  4. It protects against diabetes.
  5. It aids weight loss.
  6. It prevents constipation.
  7. It’s a good energy booster.
  8. It reduces the risk of heart disease.
  9. It helps prevent birth defects.
  10. It helps improve brainpower.

So what are you waiting for? Munch on some almonds today.

The Invitation by Oriah Mountain Dreamer

>> Tuesday, February 22, 2011

This was shared by one of my friends over at Facebook. I find it enlightening and inspiring and yes, worth sharing.

The Invitation

by Oriah Mountain Dreamer

It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing.

It doesn’t interest me how old you are.
I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dream, for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon.
I want to know if you have touched the centre of your own sorrow, if you have been opened by life’s betrayals or have become shriveled and closed from fear of further pain.

I want to know if you can sit with pain mine or your own without moving to hide it or fade it or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy mine or your own, if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful, to be realistic, to remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn’t interest me if the story you are telling me is true.
I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself.
If you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul.
If you can be faithless and therefore trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see Beauty even when it is not pretty every day.
And if you can source your own life from its presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure yours and mine and still stand at the edge of the lake and shout to the silver of the full moon, “Yes.”

It doesn’t interest me to know where you live or how much money you have.
I want to know if you can get up after the night of grief and despair weary and bruised to the bone and do what needs to be done to feed the children.

It doesn’t interest me who you know or how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand in the centre of the fire with me and not shrink back.

It doesn’t interest me where or what or with whom you have studied.
I want to know what sustains you from the inside when all else falls away.

I want to know if you can be alone with yourself and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments.

There is More to It

>> Monday, February 21, 2011

Last week, I surprised my younger brother with a news that using our home speakers, I was able to listen to FM radio stations with my phone! Woohoo! You see, he has been making a big joke about me owning an Android phone and using it just for very basic tasks like sending SMS and calling.

When I broke the news to him, he was not so impressed, unfortunately.  According to him, there is more to my phone other than texting, calling and yeah, accessing FM radio stations. Hahaha! I hear him alright! I still have to discover them though and I’ll surely will. When the need arises. Haha!

Mochi by Susie’s Cuisine

It’s not a secret that my daughter, husband and I have been frequenting the famous Susie’s Cuisine for breakfast and snacks during weekends. Our usual fare is usually loaded with carbohydrates and sugar so it is no wonder that the husband and I have been adding more inches around the middle. We ought to control our binge eating at Susie’s or else we might resort to using the

best diet pills to lose those unwanted bulges.

We usually eat palabok, baked carbonara, siomai and slices of some native delicacies like tibok-tibok and halayang ube. One of our recent delectable find at Susie’s is their mochi. We had no idea what that is until a close friend of ours asked that we bring her some during a visit. We tried it last week and indeed, it is very delicious! And here’s a photo of what I have been raving about – Susie’s Cuisine's mochi:

Offshore Injury Lawyer

>> Friday, February 18, 2011

If you or a family member is seriously injured due to an offshore accident, make sure that you have an Offshore Injury Lawyer who can ably represent you. Workers in vessels, boats, tankers, offshore drilling rigs and other kinds of ships qualify for Jones Act compensation which is a
federal law. It governs the liability of vessel operators and marine employers for their employee’s work-related injuries.

Now if you need the assistance of Board Certified maritime lawyers, consider Schechter, McElwee, Shaffer & Harris, L.L.P. They have been expertly handling cases worldwide including Israel, Russia, Philippines, England, Brazil and many others.

Another Busy Weekend

We are looking forward to another busy weekend to be spent with some very close friends and two meet ups – with my online friends and some high school buddies. My husband also plans to meet a friend of his and accompany him in shopping for a car gps for his newly-bought vehicle. Since my friends’ young kids will be there too, I am hoping that our little girl will find new friends in them. It is going to be a weekend of good company and good food. I can’t wait!

Cooking and Baking Classes

>> Wednesday, February 16, 2011

A few weeks more to go and summer break officially starts for most of our kids at school. For us, moms (and dads too!) it also means a break from waking up very early in the morning to attend to the needs of our pupils, picking up/ driving them to and from school, homework, parent-teacher meetings and other school-related activities.

As a work-from-home mom, I think that this is a good time too, to find an interesting activity that I can engage into. I found a university at nearby city that offers summer classes for adults and I am thinking of taking up baking and cooking. I have not inquired about the schedule of classes nor the fees yet but I have already taken note of their contact number.

An old, good friend of mine thinks that I need not take up these classes anymore since we were taught how to bake during high school and cooking is not new to me anymore. However, I still want to enrich my knowledge and know how to proficiently use the kitchen gadgets that we have. My baking skills is beyond poor also and I already forgot what we learned from our stern yet very endearing Home Economics teacher.

Hopefully, the class days jive with our schedule for summer because I am looking to everything about going back to school again – learning new things and meeting new friends.

Shaving Your Legs? Here Are Some Tips!

>> Tuesday, February 15, 2011

One of the least expensive ways of hair removal is through shaving. It is commonly done to remove hair on one’s legs. For best results and prevention of cuts and irritation, here are some tips to help you when shaving your legs:

  • Make sure that your skin is softened and wet when shaving. Shaving dry skin will cause clogging up of your razor with dead skin and cause cuts on your skin.

  • Find the best razor for the job. There are plenty of varieties out there and you can ask your friends for recommendations. Remember to change your razors or cartridges every now and then as dull blades can cause nicks.

  • Invest on a good shaving cream too.
  • Exfoliate your skin prior to shaving to get rid of the dead skin cells that can clog your razor.
  • Follow your hair’s growth direction. Start from your ankles and then shave down since your leg hairs grow downward.
  • Do not forget to moisturize once you’re done shaving to avoid dryness.
  • To avoid the common ingrown hair problem, exfoliate daily with a glycolic acid body lotion. If the problem becomes chronic, try an OTC lotion for ingrown hairs.
  • Lastly, you might want to consider waxing by Urbana Hair Removal. It may be costly compared shaving done at home but it frees you from the hassle of doing it yourself. Moreover, with waxing, coarser hair do not grow back as fast so you need not perform the procedure often.

    Friday Fill-ins we go!

    1. Family is the basic unit of the society. (See, I still remember my Sociology lessons!)
    2. The truth of the matter is, life is full of ups and downs.
    3. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. ;)
    4. Expect to be blessed. Always hope for the best.
    5. Parents are not perfect.
    6. One can never take back what was said.
    7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to finishing an expiring task, tomorrow my plans include a picnic date with some close friends + meeting my high school buddies and Sunday, I want to enjoy the time with my mother who will come for a visit!

    Accutane Lawsuit

    >> Wednesday, February 9, 2011

As we all know, medicines are intended to help heal a medical condition or facilitate recovery from illnesses. However, it is very unfortunate that some drugs cause dangerous side effects that are not only serious but also life-threatening. A person who suffers from injury resulting from taking a medication or use of a pharmaceutical product can file a pharmaceutical claim. One such product liability claim involves accutane. An Accutane lawsuit is based on the following:

    1. There was a duty of care owed by the Accutane manufacturer to warn of dangers associated with the product's expected and normal use;
    2. There was a failure in the duty of care owed by the Accutane manufacturer; and
    3. The failure resulted in an injury related to the use of Accutane.

One lawsuit that alleged Accutane as cause of one man to develop inflammatory bowel disease i Andrew McCarrell from Moody Alabama. Last 2007, he received $119, 000 to cover his past medical expenses and $2.5 million in compensatory damages for his future medical costs and suffering.

    Our Belated Birthday Treat

    >> Friday, February 4, 2011

The highlight of our weekend last week was the belated birthday celebration for yours truly and my best friend. We have been postponing the said date since our schedules were very busy last December. Moreover, I was almost always sick (as what my friend said) so we moved the date and last Saturday, it finally happened.

The event was graced by the Husband who travelled with me. Our minds were not made yet on where to eat but they agreed to try something different – CYMA at the Trinoma. Ordering was initially tough, considering that they are not into trying new things. That’s why I went for the tried and tested: Spinach and Artichoke Fondue, Chicken Kebobs and Hirine Brizola.

These were the same foods that my girl friends and I had during our meet up last year. The boys enjoyed it and I was not surprised. These are delectable and well, the three of us are carnivores! We were able to finish these in no time in between talks about our respective lives, careers, plans, our kid, my friend’s decision to stop smoking, his new gadget, next gadget purchase among many others.

Afterward, we went window-shopping and when we got tired, we argued on where to have coffee. They both won so Krispy Kremes it was.

    Krispy Kremes
We had a lovely time there – eating (again), drinking coffee and chatting. When it was getting dark, we decided to leave the place. One old friend is staying with the best friend and I thought that it would be nice to bring him a box of donuts. We spent another two good hours at their place – talking, eating (again) and watching some video documentaries he produced.

The Husband and I went home happy albeit another long commute. It was a wonderful day spent with old friends and we can’t wait to see them next month for a grand event in my best friend’s life.

5 Tips to Reduce Pain During Waxing

    >> Thursday, February 3, 2011

We all know that waxing can be painful, especially during the first time. However, there are many ways to reduce and minimize the pain. Here are some simple and easy steps to help you reduce the pain caused by waxing whether you are first timer or not:

    1. Numb your nerves. There are creams out there that helps you dull your skin. You can also take pain relievers like ibuprofen about 45 minutes prior to your waxing session.
    2. Seek professional help, especially when it is your first time to wax. Urbana Waxing, for example, is performed by skilled and experienced professionals. They can help you in choosing the best wax and procedure suited for you.
    3. Avoid caffeine and alcohol prior to your waxing procedure as they increase the acid in your body. Moreover, these stimulants can cause your skin to be more sensitive to waxing.
    4. To loosen your pores, use body scrub to get rid of dead cells around skin pores and hair follicle. However, do not apply astringent or toner as they tighten the pores. Using ice to numb your skin is a no-no too as anything cold can make your skin pores tight.
    5. Relax. Do not tense up, breathe deeply and relax – these can help you cope much better with the inevitable pain during the waxing procedure.
