Customized Nursing Scrub Uniforms as Gifts

Some of my former student leaders have passed the recently concluded nursing licensure exam and will be taking their oath next month. I don’t have a gift yet though I am thinking of giving each of them

nursing scrub uniforms as gifts. Those are not only unique but also practical gifts.

Blue Sky Scrubs I have started searching for medical scrubs and uniforms online and I stumbled upon Blue Sky Scrubs. It specializes in customized medical scrubs and uniform or scrub medical uniform which I think is perfect as gift for our new nurses. I also saw some gorgeous and stylish scrub hats both for men and women which will perfectly coordinate with their nursing scrub uniforms. Now who says nursing scrub uniforms are boring and outdated?

Pet Insurance for Your Wedding Day

Wedding and bridal trends certainly shift from generation to generation – and for good reason. These days, you would never see a blushing bride wearing a bridal hat circa the 1970s or voluminous sleeves from the 1980s. Wedding fashion and lifestyle brands and products build their reputation around trends in the industry, so it makes sense for things to change every several years. Recently though, a completely new – and fur-covered – trend has enjoyed a huge bridal boom. More and more, brides and grooms want to include their four-legged friend in their big day, whether as a ring bearer or flower girl, or even as an usher! Because brides are already super stressed in the days and weeks leading up to the wedding, pet insurance is a smart financial decision if you are planning to include Fido in your bridal party!

Pet insurance plans vary greatly in price and scope – so it is important to do your homework when choosing a plan. For example, consider your pets own personal health needs, and your own concerns about safety on your wedding day. If you have a tiny dog, and want her to pull a wagon of flowers, you will definitely want to rehearse with her several times before you say, “I do.” All that wear and tear on a small dog’s joints may result in a few painful trips to the vet. With mounting wedding and honeymoon expenses, you will definitely be glad you purchased a pet insurance policy for any treatments or medications your pet may need to properly perform her nuptial duties.

It is also possible to purchase a short-term pet insurance plan for the weeks before your wedding. If your groom insists on including his ten-year-old lab, you may want to take out a policy in case of tragedy before your wedding. Beyond any emotional stress of an elderly best friend, your groom will be glad to have financial freedom from any costs related to his pooch!

Tips on Buying Kid Backpacks

There are many factors to take into consideration while buying kid backpacks. The quality of the backpack is important. Since you want a backpack to last for some time, it's better to check the quality before you make a purchase. It's always preferable to buy a backpack from a reputable company. You can also look for items with a guarantee for a certain period of time. If you buy a low-quality kids backpack, it may not last for an adequate amount of time. No one wants to waste money. In addition, the backpack could fall apart when your child is carrying several books on the way home from school.

Take comfort into account when buying kid's backpacks. Children should be comfortable wearing a bag on their backs. Make sure the fabric of the backpack is hypoallergenic. The backpack should have at least two comfortable shoulder straps. The pockets or compartments of the backpack should open and close easily. Backpacks should be lightweight so children can comfortably wear them.

Cost is always a major factor. There are several overpriced backpacks on the market. Don't fall for the brand and in the process squander funds. Make sure you get your money’s worth. The quality and price of the backpack should match. Watch for discount sales where you will get the same kid's backpack at a lower price.

Looks are important while selecting a backpack. Your children may want to have attractive and colorful backpacks. Go through many backpacks before selecting one. Only the best looking ones will do for your children. Also, consider letting your children pick their own backpacks. With your guidance, your children can pick backpacks that they will like and that will last the school year.

Free PC programs to Save Time

Everybody hates a slow PC and I am no exception. To wait for an application to load is cumbersome and time consuming, to say the least. I like it when my machine runs optimally and gives me the chance to enhance my web and offline user experience. But sometimes, we're caught in a web of dismally slow starting and ancient programs that make our machines run like turtles. Though I may not have an faster alternative for every program on my PC, I found a few here that can be life savers.

Mozilla Firefox: This may not be new, but it's the hottest thing on the market right now. The only competition it faces is from its rival Google Chrome -- but Chrome only beats Firefox because it loads pages faster. Firefox, however, is totally secure and provides ample plug-ins that make your browsing experience effortless and pain-free.

CPU-Z: Don’t have a clue about the model of  processor you're currently using? CPU-Z is here to help! One of the really useful free PC programs, this handy tool lets you in on all aspects of your machine, from the voltage it uses to its video performance and core-speed.

KeePass: If you log into a different site everyday for work or for leisure and keep a small book of passwords hidden in the deepest corner of your desk drawer, it's time to throw that book away and bring in KeePass. It does what your book did, except in a more secure manner. With a master phrase that locks in all of your passwords, all you need to do is enter the primary password and check through the list of stored passwords to find the one you need.

Using each of these free PC programs saves me a little time and frustration -- and that ends up making me a happier and more productive computer user.

Losing a Loved One due to Medical Negligence

The death of a family member is always traumatic. If the death comes as a result of an illness, it brings a certain amount of peace to the rest of the family because no one wants a loved one to suffer. However, when death happens because of an accident or negligence, it brings intolerable rage and anguish to the family. Losing a loved one to something that didn't have to happen like a drunk driving or a medical error is never easy and coming to grips with it can take an immense amount of time and the ability to forgive and forget.

It's hard to image the suffering of a family who has lost a member to incapable doctors. Most doctors are very responsible and do their job to the best of their ability. But sometimes the very people who are paid to save lives become the reason for the death of a loved one because of medical negligence.  When mistakes such as interchanging tubes, leaving surgical equipment inside the patient, or administering the wrong medication happen, the survivors of the deceased can’t do much except grieve for their loss.

In recent times, it has come to light that medical negligence lawyers can help victims of such situations to deal with the trauma of losing a loved one to medical mishap by seeking compensation. They build a case after studying the cause of the death and find out the reasons why events happened as they did. They scrutinize all the aspects of the deceased patient’s medical care and use it to build a defense to help survivors seek legal action against the offenders.

Many survivors are also offered counseling in order to accept the circumstances and find the courage to forgive and forget. Eventually, some families seek answers in their own religion and many are able to find peace at last.

Ever Tried to Quit Smoking? A Mini Electronic Cigarette Can Help

Anyone who's ever tried to quit smoking knows that it's not the easiest thing in the world to do. It's been said that nicotine is actually more addictive than heroine, and smokers go back to their drug of choice at higher rates than most of the illegal drug users out there. Some people seem to be able to stop smoking relatively easily, but they aren't in the majority. Usually, people try and fail several times before they either give up and remain smokers or finally succeed and leave cigarettes behind. A lot of them have tried the gum, the mints, the patch, and other methods, and they still haven't had any long-term success.

Hypnosis, acupuncture, and prescription medications are other options for smokers who really want to quit but who haven't been able to get there just yet. If you've exhausted all of these choices and you still want to quit, you still have things you can try. One of these options is to buy a mini electronic cigarette. These work by letting you still inhale nicotine, but they don't have any other chemicals - and they don't actually produce any smoke. That way, you can use them wherever you like without harming others. They take special cartridges and have to be charged, but they're helping people quit.

Before you give up and just assume that you'll always be a smoker, make sure that you've used all of your options - sometimes in combination - so that you're able to give yourself the best chance of quitting. Will power and support are two of the most important things you can have. If you can join a stop-smoking group, even online, you'll have more of a chance to quit because you'll be able to share successes and failures with people who really understand you.

Get the Best Loan Possible for Your Home

Buying a home can be one of the biggest decisions a person will make. When you begin the process, you need to look at several things in order to get the best deal possible.

Know Where to Buy Your Home
With a home, location often affects the overall cost. In some areas, you may need to pay more to be in a certain location because of schools or community amenities, but this isn't always the case. Sometimes, you can save thousands of dollars on a home by being willing to drive five minutes farther than people who live in another neighborhood.

Know How Much Home to Buy
Many Americans believe that bigger is better, but this isn't always the case. Do you really need a three-bedroom home if you live by yourself? Unless you plan to rent out rooms to cover a portion of your mortgage, the answer is probably no. For many individuals, the pros of buying a smaller starter home outweigh the financial risk of purchasing more home than needed. Buying too large of a home can translate into more home than you can afford if your financial situation unexpectedly changes.

Know When to Buy Your Home
When you look into purchasing a home, you'll want to compare mortgage interest rates to get the best deal possible. You may be able to do even more to get the lowest rate; knowing when to purchase your home can be just as important as comparing offers from lenders. If interest rates are at record highs, it may be worth renting for a year or two until rates drop. This can allow you to build up a larger down payment while getting a better interest than people who bought at the wrong time.

Buying a home encompasses more than picking the house and lender you want. With careful planning, your home can be a successful investment.

A Little Reading Time and Good Night!

>> Wednesday, September 29, 2010

For a change, I am calling it a night this early. I want to devote some time for reading prior to sleeping. Since we transferred here, I have been splurging on books. We do not have a decent bookstore back in my first home and being a bookworm, I am very overwhelmed with the books available (as long as I can pay for them, of course! Haha!) And so we are stocking on some titles of my newfound favorite authors. I need to read them or else, The Husband won’t approve of my future purchases. Hahaha!

So this is it. Have a lovely Wednesday evening, my friend!

Debt Consolidation Could Help Your Career

When thinking about starting your own business, or making the change to working from home, your current debts can play a big role in your thinking. If you are working a full time job, and still barely making it, making the switch can be a huge problem for many people. Even if you are currently doing well, and have a good amount in savings, there can be doubts. Making the switch from a steady paycheck to something a little more iffy can be hard for anyone. You may worry about getting through without racking up a ton of debt. If you are looking to work from home or start a new business, you may need to purchase equipment that will cost you money. There will probably be the fear of the unknown.

No matter how you are choosing to make the change in your life, you will want to make sure that currently, you are financially stable. One way to do this could be to look into debt consolidation. If you currently have a large amount of outstanding credit card debt, student loans, and more, consolidating this into one payment can help significantly. This will make the transitions in your life much easier to cope with on a financial level.
Many people may not have the need for debt consolidation, but you will want to make sure that everything is in order before making a career leap. Make sure you have a budget and stick to it. Cut out expenses where you are able to. Try to have enough in savings to cover your expenses for at least a few months, just in case.

Making the switch to be your own boss is one that many people enjoy. The best way to do it is to make sure that you are not constantly stressed about finances.

14 Proven Stress Relievers

As parents, times of stress will come. Unfortunately, it’s easiest to take it out on the ones who are closest to you. While every parent has those days when they want to call in the movers, consider these proven stress relievers to help you come back to your senses.

  1. Take 15 minutes the night before and plan for your day. Make your lunch, set out your clothes and even prepare your breakfast to make the mornings a little easier.
  2. Make notes for yourself so you don’t forget important, or even unimportant, tasks.
  3. Kick procrastination to the curb; accomplish those tasks today.
  4. Make preventative maintenance part of your life. Use it for your home, your car and even your relationships to avoid breakdowns.
  5. Trash anything that doesn’t work the way it’s supposed to. Putting up with an unreliable alarm clock or rigging your windshield wipers only add more stress.
  6. Give yourself 15 minutes extra when you arrive at appointments. After all, it could take that long to get your kid inside.
  7. Stock up on emergency supplies, diapers, postage stamps, toilet paper and other home staples.
  8. Get rid of high standards. It’s okay if the dishes aren’t done tonight… they’ll still be there tomorrow.
  9. Count your blessings.
  10. Say, “No.” Even the best activities may be too much to handle, even if it’s something involving your kids. Over-scheduling your day will create unnecessary stress.
  11. Focus your thoughts on understanding and loving others instead of being understood and being loved.
  12. Count to 1,000 before you do or say something that could hurt someone else’s feelings or complicate a situation.
  13. Do something to improve your appearance; it instantly helps you feel less stressed.
  14. Write down your feelings in a journal. You’ll enjoy reading the entries after some time has passed, and you may even decide to share some with your own children when they’re grown.

Tips to Hide Vegetables in Recipes

Though some vegetables can be good, the craving for them is not always there. It's important to get a dose of veggies in each day, but it can be hard. There are some ways to add vegetables to your diet without sitting and eating raw vegetables and salads. Here are some tips to add the good stuff to your diet.

Use Your Blender
When making a fruit smoothie, add some greens. The sugar in the other fruits will help with flavor. Tomatoes are high in lycopene and other good vitamins, but eating raw tomatoes can get boring. Though they are technically a fruit, they're an essential part of eating healthy. If you don't like raw chunks of tomato, throw them in your blender with onions, carrots, and garlic. It's a great way to make sauce. When you puree them, you get the flavor without any large pieces.

Get Creative With Regular Recipes
Add veggies to recipes you already know and love. Here's an example of chicken noodle soup that has lots of healthy vegetables.
You'll need the following items:

  • 2 Tbsp oil to sauté vegetables
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 stalks celery chopped
  • 1 cup carrots, chopped
  • 2-3 boneless chicken breasts, cooked
  • 1 package chicken broth
  • 8 oz. spaghetti

Cook chicken and sauté vegetables in oil. Once sautéed, place them in a blender and puree. Add all materials together once the noodles have cooked. The pureed vegetables are a part of the tasty soup instead of their own separate crunchy bland entity.

Add Extras
Broccoli, cauliflower, and cooked carrots may taste better with melted cheese. Or, have Ranch dressing on-hand for dipping. When roasting asparagus, add salt and garlic or hollandaise sauce. In salads, add nuts, chickpeas, feta cheese, or a zesty dressing. This will help add flavor.

These quick tricks will have you eating your vegetables in no time!

Pay Money to Improve Your Credit

The idea may sound absolutely counter-intuitive: paying money to improve a less-than-perfect credit situation. But that's exactly what can happen if you decide to ditch your unsecured credit cards and go forward instead with a prepaid credit card.

Unsecured credit cards can present a mine field of danger for many people. It's too easy to continue to increase your balance because many credit card companies offer credit line increases even when they are not requested by the customer. Of course, you don't have to spend any of that extra money on your credit card, but it's a temptation. The average household in 2008 had nearly $16,000 in debt on 3.5 credit cards, according to industry statistics. Too many credit cards and high balances are two of the ways to lose points on your credit score.

By relying on secured or prepaid credit cards instead, you can take control over your credit card spending. Secured credit cards have credit limits that are based on the amount of money the customer deposits on the account. Avoid secured cards that offer additional credit on top of your deposit after an introductory period. The idea is to decide how much you can afford to spend each money and to deposit only that amount with the credit card company.

Secured credit cards can improve your credit in several ways. By ditching your unsecured cards, you are continuing to pay at least the minimums - and more if you are able -- each month. Regular, on-time payments can help increase your credit score. As you lower the balances on those unsecured cards that's another way to increase your credit card. Additionally, you are only spending what you can afford on the secured credit card, so the balance is under control and that is also a positive factor for your credit score.

Moving on Faith

Looking for a new place to live can really be hard because there are so many decisions and considerations to think about. That’s especially true when you’ve never even been to the city you’re planning to move to.

My friend Teresa is moving to New Jersey because her husband just got a terrific new job there. I know a good job is important for a young family, but New Jersey? When I try to envision Teresa living in one of those New Jersey luxury apartments like the Beacon or Liberty Towers, it just doesn’t add up. She isn’t sure yet if they want to buy or rent after they sell their house in Michigan. She thinks they’ll make enough on the sale of the house to do either. For me, I’d always rather buy. But I think it might be a good idea to lease an apartment for a year or so to make sure they really like the area before they commit by buying a house. I looked online and found that apartment availability in New Jersey varies a lot depending on how much you can afford to pay for rent and what town you want to settle in.

I told Teresa that it’s important for her and her husband to first figure out what they need and want. Sure, hardwood floors and a hot tub are great extras, but there are more important things to think about, like a school for their daughter, how long of a lease they have to sign, if they get a parking spot with the rental, and what utilities are covered in the rent. They have a small dog named Mitzi that their daughter is very attached to; will pets be permitted and how much of a damage deposit will be required up front? Some apartments even require you to have doggy insurance while you rent from them.

How to Choose a Cell Phone Company

Cell phones have become a way of life, an amenity that's hard to live without. So the question arises: With so many cell phone carriers out there, what's the best way to go about choosing one? Here are some considerations and tips to make your search easier.

Factors to Consider

Coverage and Reception. Make sure you will be able to receive a clear signal in the places you work, live, and travel often. Check out the coverage maps for each company; for instance, you could Google "Sprint coverage map" to see if your area has good reception with the carrier.

Type of Phone. Some phones are only available through certain carriers, so if you know you want a particular phone, find out who supports it. For instance, the iPhone is on an exclusive contract with AT&T so unless you get it unlocked, you are obligated to choose AT&T as your provider.

Contract. The longer the contract you sign, the cheaper your phone will be. If you already have a phone, then it's not a factor — ask about a month to month or prepaid plan.

Price — shop around; price points vary from company to company. You may also stumble across a great introductory rate or be eligible for a discount based on where you work.

Tips on Choosing a Cell Phone Carrier

  1. Ask around. Ask everyone you know what cell company they are using and how happy they are with the service. How many dropped calls do they get and how often? People are often willing to be very vocal about their experiences.
  2. Check comments and reviews online to see which carrier in your local area is preferred.
  3. Find out how many cell towers each company has in your area. Reception is generally better if towers are nearby and if an area has more towers.

Gazebo Options for Every Yard

Sprucing up your backyard without a degree in botany is easier than ever thanks the ease of access to building materials for gazebos. Some stores and websites even specialize in this niche market to offers buildings that match every taste.

The most basic designs are open air wooden gazebos. These are ideal for hot summer days when the sun’s rays are beating down. For those looking for a combination of tradition and artistry, wood is the best construction material. Some of the most popular types of wood used to build gazebos are Western Red Cedar and Southern Yellow Pine. The Western Red Cedar is know for its elegance and durability. The wood contains natural oils, which act as a deterrent against insects and wood decay. The pine gazebos offer wood that has been treated using pressure treatment, which provides the gazebo with a lifetime of protection against termites and fungus attacks. Wooden gazebos can be stained or treated almost immediately after assembly to ensure that the structure can stand up against the elements.

Wooden gazebos might be preferred by enthusiasts who enjoy a connection with the past and appreciate the look of woodwork. But for homeowners that want a low maintenance gazebo, vinyl might be the best material. Vinyl will not face attacks from termites, and the material requires only sporadic cleaning. A vinyl structure combined with a composite deck and a shingled roof is an attractive way to build a centerpiece for any garden or backyard.

Depending on the size of the backyard or accessibility of the home, gazebos can be delivered pre-assembled. Orders can even be specialized to fit areas that do not match with standard size gazebos. Rather than worrying about finding a backyard to fit a gazebo, nearly any backyard can be stylized with a structure that will match the needs of the homeowner.

7 Wednesday Happy Thoughts!

Not late for a change! And here we go:
Happy Thoughts1. The opportunity to watch my daughter fall asleep every single night and pray over her once she’s asleep. Not all parents are given the chance to do this every night, including my husband. :(

2. The super loving and supportive husband that I have. We celebrated our 8th year of wedded bliss last week and it is one big accomplishment for us. He sorta surprised me with a homecoming albeit the fact that it was late and he had to leave so early in the morning the following day for work. A bonus: a got a present, not just his presence. Haha!

3. Ma who lovingly prepared the food for our wedding anniversary celebration last weekend. We enjoyed her delectable spaghetti, cheese lumpia and fruit salad.

4. The kind of work that lets me do what I love while letting me take care of my family. And with this job, I was able to save up and buy a surprise anniversary gift for my unsuspecting husband (though I told him that it also serves as my Christmas 2010 and Valentine’s Day 2011 gift too!)

5. My friends, as always, who keep me up and about and sane and happy and motivated. :)

6. The financial blessing (of course!) that has been coming in since last night. Like what I usually say, “When it rains, it floods!”. I am so grateful and I am still thinking of a way to pay it forward.

7. A family trip come December. I can’t wait!

Simplify Your Life with Property Managers

Having rental property can be exciting - the start of a new adventure. It can also be difficult, stressful and expensive when you realize all of the upkeep and effort that goes into renting and maintaining it. Rather than let the stress get you down and make you upset, there are great ways to handle it by letting others help you. If you use a property management service, you can relieve yourself of much of the rental burden and still make money from your properties. Many people don't want to use property managers because they think they won't make any money.

It's true that you'll have to pay the management company, but the company can keep the properties rented and handle the maintenance, which is certainly worth paying for. You may find that you make more money by letting someone else handle the properties for you. They'll stay well-maintained, and they'll stay rented, which will keep a steady flow of income headed your direction. If you don't use a company, you might find that it's a lot of work to keep up with things on your own. If you're interested in simplifying your life, property management is one of the best ways to do it.

There are a lot of good reasons to simplify your life. A reduction of stress is one of them, but there are others. Many people who work to simplify their lives realize that they aren't getting any younger and they want to do things with their time that matter to them. That can be hard to do when there are constant demands on your time. By turning your rental property management over to a company that can help you, you can do things with your time that you've always wanted to do - or you can just relax and enjoy.

Virtual Vacations to Feed the Soul

Traveling is more than a little important. The exposure to the outside world, pulling you dramatically outside of your normal boundaries, is one of the best ways to explore who you are as a person. Of course, you also get to explore the outside world, engaging with new locations, sights, sounds, cultures, thoughts, and histories. Traveling, however, is also not cheap. The solution? Consider a virtual vacation.

So, maybe you can't go to Rome this Summer. But maybe you can get a little bit of Rome to come to you. The idea goes something like this:

Step One: Get books about the location you want to travel to. Make sure that these books are packed with pictures of the location. Get the sort of book you like to read, whatever that happens to be!

Step Two: Arrange for food. If you have enough extra money, buy some food from a restaurant that is themed appropriately for the region you want to visit. If you have the time and enjoy cooking, consider grabbing a few recipes and ingredients.

Step Three: Find the right environment. You can transform your room, your car, a local park, or almost any other location into a virtual vacation environment. Little touches like themed background music, printed pictures, and appropriate lighting can all make you feel like you're really escaping the norm.

Step Four: Set aside a weekend and escape! Study the location, gaze at the pictures, learn how to travel in the area of your dreams, read travel stories from the region, and otherwise indulge in an immersive getaway fantasy.

This isn't limited to just you, either! This makes for a perfect date idea. Or, if you know someone who could really use a trip, you can put together all of the above-mentioned items and send them as care packages to provide an affordable escape from reality.

If you haven't looked into the idea of assisted living, maybe it's time you did. Almost everyone has aging parents, grandparents, or other relatives that might be needing some help soon. Perhaps some of them already do need that help, and you just aren't quite sure what to do with them. Assisted living could be the answer. There are many great things about the Chicago area, so your relative won't be at a loss for things to do. Assisted living isn't like a nursing home, either. There's a lot more freedom and only the level of help that's needed, making it more private.

For example, there are facilities where the person can have his or her own "apartment" so there's no sharing of tiny rooms that feel like a hospital. Meals are provided, so the danger of starting a fire by cooking something is removed from the equation. Also, there are trips that the person can take, organized activities to participate in, and people always nearby if help is needed. It's a great way for a person to relax and feel as though he or she still has some control over life. It's also a great way to give other family members peace of mind and unburden them.

As people get older a lot of them need assisted living facilities. There's no shame in placing your older relative in one. The best care is there, and there will be a lot of other people to interact with, along with the chance to have privacy when desired. It's a great solution for the older person and for that person's family, and it's something that works out well no matter what area of the country you live in. If you're near the Chicago area, check out the assisted living options there. You'll be glad you did.

The Anniversary Present

The Husband and I celebrated our anniversary last Tuesday and since it was a working day, the celebration will take place this weekend. I did not expect him to come home. I counted five office clothes while he was packing last weekend so I assumed that I won’t be seeing him that day. But around 6PM, I learned from the reply that I got from him that indeed, he was coming home! Unfortunately, I did not prepare any gift for him because I thought that he will be coming home tomorrow. Anyway, aside from his presence and the tube of acne cream that I asked him to buy for me from the mall, he also gave me this present:
laptop_table_heightWe have been planning to buy this laptop table ever since Kaje showed it to me. We intended to visit the store, The Digiking, last weekend but we ran out of time. He shared that he braved the rain last Monday just to buy this but his consolation was that he got this at a discounted price. The table has some discoloration and it is the last stock so the owner gave him some discount. I am one happy camper now because working on my computer for a long time does not strain my neck and back anymore. Thanks, Babe!

My Friends to the Rescue

Isn’t it nice to have friends who can help you with almost any concern that you face in life? I am one blessed gal for having friends who are always ready to provide answers and assistance on almost anything whenever I ask. Just last month, I was worrying about my skin problems so I buzzed a friend on Yahoo Messenger for an advice on how to get rid of blackheads. She suggested a solution and true enough, it was effective!

She also suggested that I use honey as my facial wash for a smoother and radiant skin and again, she was so right! I just started using it two weeks ago and my face is now smoother and free from breakouts.

And this is another proof how blessed I have been with the friends I have in my life.

Breakfast at Taps in Davao City

Taps in Davao City

Two Sundays ago, I had the privilege to spend the day with two of my closest friends and my youngest (and most favorite. Haha!) brother in-law, Ted. He is now based in Davao City as a postulant of the SSS Congregation. BFF Ric and I attended their parish’s 8 AM Mass and later met with Ted’s formator at the seminary. We then proceeded to Taps at F. Torres Street.

The three of us ordered Taps’ famous lekasilog or lechon kawali, sinangag and itlog. The photos reveal how much we enjoyed our breakfast (and how sumptuous it was!) though in between bites, we were discussing the diet pill reviews being sent by a mutual friend of ours. That breakfast was just the beginning of a fun-filled and another memorable day in Davao City.

An Afternoon with My Best Friend

>> Wednesday, September 22, 2010

These are just some of the photos taken to document the fun afternoon that I had last Saturday when we visited a friend in Caloocan last Saturday. After lunch, we proceeded to Trinoma for a stroll around the mall but prior to that, we had coffee and cakes at The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. It was a perfect spot to enjoy the place and each other’s company while indulging into some of life’s sweet treats.

I have known my friend for almost 10 years now and many things have changed. For one, we can now spend time together without fighting, arguing and bickering. It rarely happened when we were younger! Secondly, both of us have definitely gained weight so a good part of our conversation that afternoon was about the weight loss pills that we tried in our effort to slim down. In the end, we both agree that living a healthy lifestyle and dieting are the best ways to be fit.

It was one memorable afternoon indeed and we are both hoping that it won’t be the last.

If you are a book worm like me, I know that you can relate with this:

1284006150905512Work have been keeping me very busy that I have neglected my reading time these past weeks. I also took a short vacation and did not bring any book along because I had to travel light. Anyway, before sleeping last night, I finally found time to read. I realized that I have not finished Max Lucado’s Come Thirsty and I still have two more books from him that I still need to read. I am still trying to find balance between work, family life, house chores, hobbies, fitness and everything that I deem important in my life, reading included. Yes, it’s been four months since I became a WAHM and yes, I am still struggling for that balance. But I am getting there, slow but sure.

Arizona Air Conditioning

>> Saturday, September 18, 2010

My husband and I met a friend today and had coffee and cake in at one of the malls. It was a humid day and we were hoping that we could somehow escape the heat by staying inside the mall. However, we were disappointed because it seemed the the centralized air conditioning unit of the mall was not good enough to keep the place cool. It was crowded with people, especially that it’s a weekend. I am hoping that they could add more units or at least repair if there are broken ones.

I am reminded of this experience of a company that specializes in Arizona heating and cooling - Jay's Comfort Team. Their team of experts provides air conditioning repair and installation services in the Phoenix, AZ Metro area including Scottsdale, AZ. They are on call 24 hours a day and have been diligently serving Arizona residents for more than 26 years now. They house certified technicians who can efficiently maintain and repair  Arizona air conditioning and cooling equipment and knowledgeable comfort consultants who can design and install energy-efficient systems. No doubt, Jay’s Comfort Team is the leading company when it comes to Arizona air conditioning service as it has been the choice of more than 30,000 homes and businesses in the Phoenix, Arizona area for many years now.

Teleconferencing Services Provider

>> Thursday, September 16, 2010

I stayed with a friend during my short vacation recently and I witnessed how convenient it was for her to work from home, thanks to technology. She get to talk and meet her colleagues in real time through Video conference. It is indeed amazing how technology has helped many of us conduct business internationally. Location is never an issue nowadays. My friend and five of her colleagues are based in the different cities here in the country while their main office is based in the US. Their work is made easy by teleconferencing services like The Conference Group.

Network for Builders

>> Monday, September 13, 2010

One of my friends who is a licensed civil engineer by profession finally took the plunge and started his own construction company. He was able to process his business registration and in no time, buy the necessary equipment with the help of his parents. He is now busy scouting for clients who wish to him for his service in constructing commercial or residential buildings. He relies solely on his network and referral from friends. It is unfortunate that a builders’ network is non-existent in our country yet. In the US, houseplansandmore.com, an online provider of houseplans, created a program that lets builders’ join a network. Builders can register their company at houseplansandmore.com and subsequently be added to the site’s database of builders for people to reference. The company’s information is made available to home buyers who are seeking a builder in their indicated area. The Builders' Advantage Program even offers exclusive discounts, special offers and publications to its member all year round.

It is commendable on the part of houseplansandmore.com to initiate this kind of program aside from providing quality house plans. One can buy a pre-drawn house plan and build as is or it can be used as a starting off point in the design of one’s dream house. Indeed, houseplansandmore.com is the best place to begin with when someone starts to fulfill his dream of building a house for his family.

Updates from Them

>> Saturday, September 11, 2010

Yesterday, I was able to catch with some friends over lunch. We spent almost four hours there to make up for the four months that we were not able to see each other. Of course, our conversation covered a lot of topics - from their work, my work, our kids, their plans to leave the country, etc. I learned that one of them is into gold coins investing. She was advised by a brother who is also into this investment for five years now. And they are making a wise move, according to financial experts. Since gold coins' value rarely depreciates, it is also considered a fungible investment. My friend still needs to learn a lot about this kind of investment and it's a good thing she has the US Gold Bureau to back her up. From what I learned, it is the most trusted authority when it comes to gold.

Hello!

Good morning! I landed here on my first home yesterday and I can say that I did enjoy the flight though I had no hand to hold during take off (which is my most hated part when flying). I surely did miss the little traveling companion who usually sits by the window. Upon arrival, I had a quick lunch at my parents’ house and then spent the entire afternoon and early evening at the salon. I did miss that place and the people who have been styling my hair for more than ten years. Photos will be posted once I get back from my vacation. Ta-ta!

Price Versus Location in Modern Retail

>> Friday, September 10, 2010

For many stores, success solely relies on its location.  Location, Location, Location is the mantra for most business success. However, in the case of factory outlet stores, success is no longer about location but about selection and price. Basically, it comes down to, “Do you carry name brands?” and if so, are the prices low enough to get people to travel long and wide to purchase your inexpensive products. With regards to outlet stores, some big retail chains have separate branded factory outlet stores, like the Nordstrom outlet (or Nordstrom Rack), however, some retail chains like Office Depot and Underground Station just offer sales and great prices year round, instead of having separate out let stores.

For the most part money is tight for everyone in this economy. Because of this, our mission is to make certain we are getting the most ‘Bang for Our Buck’ on whatever we purchase so we can make our money last. Most of us have heard of Nordstrom outlet stores or Office Depot and Underground Station store locations that offer INSANE deals on products we use every single day. While many retail chains can be somewhat pricey for the products they sell, a nationwide presence like an Underground Station Store and many Office Depot locations still cater customers; offering superior discount prices that keep consumers coming back year after year.

While products typically offered at outlet stores are less expensive, they do share the same great quality materials that are sold in their high end mother ship branded stores. A Nordstrom outlet is one such case; selling great merchandise for a great price. On the other hand, Office Depot locations and Underground Station store entities oftentimes purchase products in bulk, selling the most cutting edge technology or the best cutting edge styles. And because they have so many products on hand, they are able to sell their offerings at a lower price point satisfying the average consumer with a price that is right, a win-win for everyone.

Construction Gears

>> Tuesday, September 7, 2010

One of the many things that is prominent in the city where we live are constructions of buildings. It seemed that after every kilometer or so, a new commercial building is being constructed. Of course, this is a good thing because it generates employment.

Speaking of construction, due to the hazard inherent to an environment where construction is ongoing, workers must be fully protected with safety clothing like a Carhartt coveralls. These heavy-duty coveralls are made of materials which can stand the weather. These and other Carhartt clothing are all available at ConstructionGear.com. It is an online store that specializes in gears for construction workers. It offers a wide variety of different products that include Carhartt work gloves, work boots, pants, shirts, sweatshirts, hats, overalls, rain gear and many others. This online store also carries brand names like Carhartt, Dickies and other major manufacturers. What’s commendable about this online store is that navigation is very easy. Items are categorized either according to brand or kind so shopping is a breeze. Moreover, there are clearance sales, rebate offers and even free gifts for more savings. Buying Used Farm Tractors

>> Monday, September 6, 2010

I can’t seem to catch my best friend online these days. Whether on Facebook or instant messaging, he seemed to be elusive. Just last week, I called him up to check on him. I asked why I never saw him go online and the answer he gave me I found amusing: his time online is spent mostly playing Facebook

‘s Farmville! Now that’s interesting. I know him to be a very busy man and it is amazing to learn that he can squeeze in some farming time into his very hectic schedule. He is so into improving his farm, taking care of his animals, trees and plants and maintenance of his buildings and tractors.

Farmville tractors remind me of the used farm tractors I saw at Tractorsearch.com. It is an online listing source of farm equipment, both used and new, for buyers and sellers alike. It allows dealers to submit unlimited number of equipment listings to their database and for potential buyers, this is a more cost-efficient way to search and evaluate used tractors for sale prior to paying for them. compared to buying from sellers who advertise on equipment magazines. Many types and brands of tractors are made available at Tractorsearch.com. These include used john deere tractors, Bobcat, Gehl, Mustang and many others. Searching for tractors is indeed a breeze now, thanks to Tractorsearch.com.

Stamp and Collecting Supplies Store

On the occasion of the proclamation of our country’s 15th president, the Philippine Postal Corp. (Philpost) issued a commemorative stamp of president-elect Benigno “Noynoy”Aquino III. It was a tradition carried out by the said agency every time a new president of the country is proclaimed. I know one person who has been religiously collecting these commemorative stamps. He is lacking some pieces but he is not giving up. I saw his stamp album one time and I was very impressed with the number of stamps he has already collected from different countries. He asked for a new stamp album as a birthday gift next month because the others are already full. This is how I came across with Lindner-usa.com, the trusted online store for quality stamp and coin collecting supplies.

Aside from stamp albums, they also offer assorted protective mounts, crystal clear pocket pages and many other supplies needed for stamp collecting. Coin collectors can select from their wide variety of Coin box, coin album, coin holders and many coin supply accessories. My friend will surely appreciate the LINDNER digital USB microscope that I saw there. With it, he can see small details of his stamps magnified on his computer monitor. As a welcome gift, Lindner-usa.com offers a $10 discount on their client’s first online order of $50 or more. Aside from that, they regularly offer discounts and deals that let their clients save more. These only show their dedication on making the hobby of collecting more fun and less expensive.

Discount Party Supplies at Partypro.com

My daughter turned seven early this year and I gave her two birthday parties. I availed of the party services of her favorite fast food chain and had pre-birthday celebration at her classroom. It was a breeze because what I only did was book it and pay the required amount. There was no need to shop for party supplies nor come up with fun games and surprises to amuse the kids. Everything was taken cared of by the party organizer.

The other party was set on her exact day of birth. It was a surprise party with some close friends and relatives. In contrast with the first party, I had to do almost everything for this event – from booking the venue, designing and distribution of invitations, decors, shopping for party supplies and many others. It was a good thing that I have some reliable friends who helped me from the preparation down to restoration. Since there were limited supplies and varieties of party supplies, we had to hop from shop to another to find what we were looking for. It was really physically exhausting but totally worth it when I saw how happy my daughter was in the company of those who came to celebrate with us.

However next time, I might consider enlisting the help of an online party supply store to make sure that we have everything that we need for an event. One such store is Partypro.com that offers around 60,000 party supplies to its customers. These party products are made available at very affordable prices. Partypro.com has earned its reputation as the leading discount party store on the Internet simply because for them, partying is a serious business.

So, how do you like this blog’s new look? I had to change it because I was getting bored with the old one. I planned on changing my other blogs’ look but I had to prioritize and work on something.

Anyway, speaking of blogs, I have some new ones which I have not introduced here yet. One of them will be using a relatively new platform and will be (or already is) hosted by a friend. These are to relatively new me so I find the experience somewhat exciting. I have not logged on to that account yet which makes my friend panic a wee bit. Haha! Many tasks keep me busy these days, that’s why. And it will take me another week or so to finally sit down and work on it since I will be on a short trip to my first home! Woohoo! This is another thing that excites me about September. I can’t wait!

Save the Earth by Buying Used Cell Phones

Let me share with you some interesting environmental facts:

  • Americans throw away enough aluminum to rebuild our entire commercial fleet of airplanes every 3 months. (Environmental Defense Fund)
  • Recycling glass instead of making it from silica sand reduces mining waste by 70%, water use by 50%, and air pollution by 20%. (Environmental Defense Fund)
  • Recycling creates 6 times as many jobs as landfilling. (Colorado Recycles)
It is good to know bits of information like these to be aware of what we can do to save the Earth. Aside from the government and various non-government and socio-civic organizations, business and corporations have also taken part in promoting eco-preservation. One of these is GreenCells which believes that real innovations should be sustainable, profitable, and ultimately, socially responsible.

These days, average US cell phone users replace their unit every 12 months. This resulted to an annual disposal of more than 100 million cell phones. To do their share of preserving the environment, GreenCells has taken innovative steps by encouraging reuse of many of these cell phones like used verizon phones, used t mobile phones and others. They do this through buying and selling of used cell phones – from the latest models to quality replacement ones. GreenCells buy used cell phones which are either paid in check or converted into larger credit towards the purchase of one of their available phones. Cell phones sold at GreenCells are 75% cheaper compared to the price of brand new units. Moreover, 30-day money-back guarantee plus a one-year warranty also come with the package. Thus, for those who prefer to replace their cell phones often, GreenCells’ offer lets them do it without hurting both their budget and the environment.

Super Bowl is a result of a merger agreement between two major American football leagues, the National Football League (NFL) and the American Football League (AFL). Headache

I have been battling against a mild headache since mid-afternoon. The installation of our neighbor’s yakima roof racks did not help either.  I could still hear the noise despite the closed glass window panels. When workmen were finally done, I was able to nap but that did not help either.  I took a strong paracetamol in lieu of mefenamic acid because I’ve run out supply of the latter. But still, my head is achy. I’ve resorted to using my trusted menthol cone though my daughter has been complaining that it smells awful. Oh well. I hope this night’s sleep is the cure.

Philippines’ Most Livable City

My friend, Chikai, posted this information at her blog:

Who would ever want to live in a city where the monthly crime rate falls below one percent? Without batting an eyelash, Davao City deserves to be on top of this list. This most progressive city in Southern Philippines has been awarded the “Most Peaceful City in East and Southeast Asia for seven years and is home to the “Best Police Office in the Country” for six consecutive years. Going around Davao City even at night is very safe and I’ve personally experienced it. The city is also known to be typhoon-free all throughout the year and has an admirable city health office that offers free clinical and medical services to its less fortunate urban and rural residents. In terms of business, there is no doubt that Davao City is continuously booming. It is home to Mindanao’s largest SM Mall and will soon open Ayala Center’s first lifestyle mall in Mindanao. For four consecutive years, Davao City has also been recognized by Asiaweek as one of the 20 Best Cities in Asia. [SOURCE]

I find this information useful since we have been planning to settle down in Davao City. I hope that when that time comes, it still is the most livable city in the country.

We usually frequented the city whenever we wanted to take short vacations in the previous years. Therese would usually delight on the new sights and sounds. One of the many things she looked forward to was our stay at the hotel. She enjoyed the facilities which we do not have at home. However, we need to check what door hangers she put up on the door knob prior to leaving the room. There was a time when she placed the “Do Not Disturb” sign instead of the “Please Clean this Room”. Obviously, we returned to an undisturbed room. :D

Side Trip

I have been counting the days until I visit my first home next week. I am as excited as some of my friends back there. In fact, I’ve already talked to some of them and we have planned several meet ups. I will be visiting Davao City too to see two of them and I will stay at a friend’s house. I love her small and cozy place. The last time I was there, some landscaping work was being done. Yesterday, I learned that the log furniture she ordered last month will be delivered before I arrive. I can’t wait to see how her looks now that its fully furbished and decorated inside and out.

Buy Tickets for the Super Bowl XLV

>> Friday, September 3, 2010

He may not look sporty nor posses an athletic build but my husband, like majority of the men in the world, loves sports. I find it puzzling, this thing about men and sports so over lunch last weekend, I asked my husband for reasons why he loves sports. He gave me two reasons. First is that professional athletes are highly commendable and respected because of the amount of effort, energy and resources they allot to improve and excel in their game. Secondly, sports is quantifiable. There is no need to argue and fight on which is the best team during the season or the conference’s best player. A simple look at the post-season statistics and the figures will give you the easy answers. His answers were certainly enlightening as they made me appreciate him (and men in general) better. I now understand why sporting event tickets sell like hotcakes and missing a sporting event can be very disappointing.

One good way to make sure that you (or the man in your life) won’t miss any sporting event is to book early with SportsEvents.com, a provider of premium sport packages and hospitality during national and international sporting events. Whether its Us open tickets or Kentucky derby tickets, SportsEvents.com got you covered. You can even avail of one of the Superbowl packages and together, watch and enjoy the Super Bowl XLV championship and post game parties on February 6, 2011 at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. It’s a great way to bond as a couple and at the same time experience firsthand the excitement during a Super Bowl championship.

PC Repair by PCMD, Inc.

Aside from the academic programs being offered in our university, we also have our Community College which takes charge of vocational learning of many out-of-school youth in the area and nearby provinces. In few months’ time, these students learn new skills and are expected to take competency exams to be certified by a government agency in charge of technical-vocational skills development. The course which has the most enrollees is computer troubleshooting. The instructors are the university’s very own computer troubleshooting experts. Our Community College is proud to report that many graduates of the said course are now employed at government and private institutions in the city. Others are freelance computer troubleshooters serving their neighbors and small time businesses.

One of the proposals to provide more employment opportunities for the graduates is to establish a computer troubleshooting group that will cater to the needs of outside clients. We know that this is still a long shot but it is feasible. The persons in charge must first conduct feasibility studies and learn from those who are already engaged in the business like the Portland pc repair which specializes in home-based and small business computer maintenance and repair. One distinct feature that this Portland computer repair has is their onsite and remote services which both assure clients of quality service anywhere in Portland. I know that when given a chance, our graduates are capable of serving their future clients the way PCMD, Inc. provide Portland computer support to their customers.

Office Supplies Online Shop

I have a longtime fascination with school and office supplies. I remember being entertained with my mom’s box of colorful paperclips whenever she brought me to her office during my younger years. When I was in grade school, some friends and I braved the big city to go to a school and office supply store and spent our meager savings colorful pens, stationeries, stickers and small notebooks. I was nine years old that time and my parents were not impressed when they learned about our little escapade.

These days, we need not flock the shops in order to shop for pens, binders, office paper, erasers and other office supplies, thanks to the convenience brought about by online office supply store like the CleanSweepSupply.com. Their inventory has over 37,000 high quality products for home and office. Finding a certain item can be easily done because their products are categorized accordingly and a state-of-the-art search tool is also available. Buyers seeking to save more on money and time can avail of the free delivery and next day shipping provided the order costs $50 or more and it placed prior to the cut-off time. Moreover, its monthly specials and deals let shoppers save more on home and office supplies.

Missing Mr. Sun

We have been experiencing bad weather these past few days that most of my errands plus the laundry have been postponed. The strongest downpour was yesterday morning that I had to let my daughter stay at home and miss her classes. Also, a friend who was looking forward to start building their home’s outdoor fireplaces had to cancel it until the weather gets better. I am hoping for a sunny weather for tomorrow too, because my husband and I will go on a date, as a friend puts it. Keeping my fingers crossed here!

He’s Still the Man!

>> Thursday, September 2, 2010

One of the persons I miss terribly is my brother in-law, Ted. He is temporarily based in Davao City as a postulant of a congregation. Thanks to the Internet and mobile phones, I get to talk to him once in a while. Since he was our resident interior designer, he would usually ask about the house’s condition whenever we talk. However, the last time we talk over the phone, I was too excited with my stories and his sharing regarding his experiences that I forgot to mention that the Schlage door knob of our room was broken. I now have to send him an email asking where we can buy a replacement from the same brand. Yeah, Ted is still the man!
