Suri Cruise and the Caribbean

>> Saturday, July 31, 2010

It’s funny how little Suri Cruise led me to the Caribbean. I was reading an article about the famous child celebrity and her parents when I learned that his father, Tom Cruise, made a movie, Cocktail. This 80’s American movie is one of the most popular films that depicted Jamaica, one of the famous vacation destinations in the Caribbean. Now my interest did a major shift. From the Cruises to Cocktail, now I am reading about Jamaica.

I did some further research and I discovered that it’s not all about reggae or Bob Marley. It is now a prime destination for those looking for an adventure of a lifetime. And the best all inclusive beach resorts are operated by no other than Breezes Resorts. What’s an all inclusive Caribbean vacation? Simply put, its settling your bills prior to taking that much-needed holiday. Why? So that you need not worry about it while enjoying your meals and drinks or relaxing in your elegant suite or engaging into your preferred water or land sports. Breezes Resorts’ all inclusive caribbean vacations are perfect for couples, families and groups. Caribbean’s crystal waters and endless sunshine make it an ideal place relaxation, rest and fun.

…for a fitness gym nearby.

Last weekend, I weighed myself and I was not a bit happy with what I saw. I did not gain extra weight but I still am heavy. A friend of mine and I have been planning to go to a fitness gym. I already did an online research which led me to some fitness gym in Angeles City. An acquaintance also gave some recommendations but my friend and I still need to schedule a visit to these places. What I want to do is try some running treadmills and lift weights, while my friend wants to do aerobics.

Hopefully, we can finalize our plans soon because a trip to the beach is included in my itinerary when I go home some months from now. My unwanted bulges should be gone by then. Wish me luck!

Soulfood for Successful People

bo Bo Sanchez is one of my favorite evangelizers and writers. I have heard of him many years back but I came to own one of his books when one of our friends gave us a copy about three years ago. From then on, I bought a couple of his titles and while that generous friend paid for my Kerygma magazine subscription (which Bo publishes) for a year.

I discovered some months back that he has a blog where he shares a weekly dose of his wisdom and insights. I like his practical take on faith, relationships, health, wealth, daily living and everything that matters to us. I just subscribed to his mailing list so a weekly letter from him will be sent to my inbox and I received a free ebook from entitled "How To Know if Your Dreams Are God's Dreams". Subscribe HERE and receive a weekly dose of soulfood straight to your inbox.

Failing

>> Monday, July 26, 2010

Who’s afraid of failing? I know I am! But taking risks is inevitable and like what I always tell my students in the past, one will never know whether he’ll fail or succeed unless he will try. I have learned to be courageous now, trying to take more calculated risks because I know that Someone Who is bigger than any of my failures is always ready to catch me and help me start again.

Coin Dozer

>> Sunday, July 25, 2010

One of the free iTunes applications that my husband and I enjoy playing on iPod Touch is Coin Dozer. It is a no-brainer game. The goal of the game is so simple – to drop as many gold coins as possible and earn prizes like teddy bears, whistles and diamonds. Dropping three or more gold coins will give make prizes appear, as well as some bonus coins like silver and red coins. Once these are dropped more bonuses like extra coins are received or a giant coin drops over the pile coins.  How I wish we can turn those Coin Dozer coins into real ones though so that there is no need for us to buy gold bullion.

The Case Against TransUnion

>> Saturday, July 24, 2010

TransUnion. O’Hanlong, Mccollom & Demerath. Unfamiliar? Read on to learn about them.

TransUnion is a credit reporting company that made an illegal action by selling confidential credit information of those who filed credit in the United States from 1987 to 2000. This is a violation of the Federal Credit Reporting Act, thus, affected persons are entitled to monetary damages from the pre-established fund worth $75 million.

And how does O’Hanlon, McCollom & Demerath fit in the picture? As a team of TransUnion post class action lawsuit settlement attorneys, they have the necessary experience, resources and not to mention dedication to take on the complex issues against TransUnion. Their goal is to help the victims file a TransUnion Class Action Lawsuit and obtain the compensation they deserve. Their combined skills and experience make them well-equipped to handle all TransUnion claims, even the most complex ones. Consultation is free at their website. A Unique Gift

>> Tuesday, July 20, 2010

Our wedding anniversary is just around the corner and as usual, finding the perfect gift for my husband is a tough job for me. I have already given him practical stuff that he can use like clothes, bags, watches and books and I can’t think of other relevant gifts that someone like him would appreciate.

But while watching a basketball game on television yesterday, I came up with an idea. Why not give him autographed sports memorabilia instead? I know it would surprise and at the same time delight the sports fan in him. I scoured the Net and found Hollywood Collectibles Inc. where a variety of genuine professional sports memorabilia for all sports and popular athletes including historical stars and current teams are available. I even found autographed baseballs that I know my brother would love to have. These collectibles are superb gift items for the sports fanatics in your life whether it’s basketball, golf, boxing, hockey, racing, tennis, football or baseball. You will surely find an item or two that will make that special sports fan of your delightful and grateful. Aside from being collectors’ items, autographed memorabilia’s value appreciate through the years, thus, they are also considered as good investment.

The Importance of Travelling

My friends and I had a blast spending time with each other when we celebrated my husband’s birthday some weeks back. For most of them, visiting our place was a first time and they can’t wait to come back. They were hoping that another celebration is on its way come September, when my husband and I celebrate our wedding anniversary but then, we have thought of another way of celebrating that special event and it is to travel somewhere that we have never been before.

Traveling give us an opportunity to see how life is outside our comforts and borders. More importantly, it gives us the chance to taste new foods, see new sights and listen to sounds we have not heard before. I think that traveling is the perfect chance to marvel at the creation and be amazed at how great and powerful the Creator is.

My husband and I still have not decided where to go come September but we are considering national parks tours in our itinerary. We are also saving up for asia tours or australia tours with our daughter. Speaking of international tours, I have read that Collettevacations.com offers specialty escorted tours and tour packages all over the world. I like that they have unique tour that relates to history, culture and special events. This makes touring more significant and informative. To make preparations for tours easier, resources , useful information, and interactive world maps are made available at their website.

Our Mini Reunion and His Birthday

>> Tuesday, July 13, 2010

So Sunday was my husband’s birthday. We had a small celebration and some of my old, old friends came to celebrate with us. We were too busy having so much fun that I forgot to take photos of:
1. The celebrant with our other visitors, namely our relatives.
2. The food which were painstakingly and lovingly prepared by Ma.

The birthday boy has few photos on HIS birthday! I feel so guilty. And the food. Oh my. How can I ever forget the food? Maybe because we started eating at around 1PM and we were all starving that we forgot about taking photos. Aside from that, we were busy laughing and talking so really, there was no time to photograph. And boy we ate a lot! I am oh-so grateful to Ma for the sumptuous dishes she prepared and to Aunt Rose for the yummy cake she baked. One of us who is on a diet and taking apidexin instantly declared that day as her free day and ate until she was really full. We even had some cake, coffee and pork cracklings after two hours!

Anyway, it was a super fun, fun day indeed. Hopefully, I can post some of our photos soon.

Your Company’s Best Asset

>> Saturday, July 10, 2010

The best representation of your company is your workforce. Your best advertisement for your company can be your employees. With these in mind, you need to invest not only on the personal development of your company’s workforce but also on your company's dress code or uniform program. Uniforms help identify employees and contribute to the professional look of your employees. Our Favorite Topic

Here are some Filipino delicacies that I was able to bring home this morning:

On top is pichi-pichi and at the bottom is called tibuk-tibuk.

Buying them was not included in my plan this morning but I can’t help but think of pichi-pichi because Diane and I were talking about it yesterday. Her husband brought some home from a recent trip. Diane is on the family way and aside from her prenatal vitamins, how lazy we both feel, etc., we usually talk about food, food and food!

Anyway, I like the pichi-pichi – my first time to buy here in Angeles City. But the tibuk-tibuk is my all-time favorite. Initially, I have mistaken it for maja blanca, another favorite. I asked Wes and his brothers the difference betwee the two but they can’t say. Last weekend, I was able to buy a slice of maja blanca at the mall and I think I finally figured out the difference! Maja blanca is starchy. On the other hand, tibuk-tibuk is more gelatinous and it melts in my mouth! So which do I prefer? Tibuk-tibuk it is!

If those emails that involves winning the lottery, business partnership and inheritance were really true, I should be in the Forbes’ list of the wealthiest persons in the planet!

Wrestling with God

>> Thursday, July 1, 2010

I found this on Facebook today. It was posted by one of my favorite priests, Fr. Jun Mercado, OMI who was our university president when I was in college. Read on.

When do I wrestle with God?

The Scriptures call us into a personal struggle like Jacob’s, where God both wounds him and yet blesses him. It almost sums up the whole Bible. He wrestled with the angel of Yahweh and “won” (Genesis 32:24-31)! It became the very name “Israel.” In such a personal involvement, in our own wrestling match with the mystery of God, we come to the fullness of faith. The wonderful thing about this wrestling match is that God always allows us to win in the end, although in the middle it might feel like we are losing.

Faith is not a competing ideology with other religions or “gods.” Biblical faith is more a process than a conclusion, more a way of relating than a way of explaining, more a wrestling match than a classroom lesson—a growing dialogue of constant give and take, and not just give and not just take.

Adapted from Richard Rohr, OFM. The Great Themes of Scripture (Resource no longer in print, superseded by the New Great Themes of Scripture)
