Anticipating

How time flies! September is about to end and it only means that another big vacation is just around the corner. I can’t help it, I am already thinking about our Christmas vacation. In fact, I have been blabbering about it here and in my other blogs. This year, I intend to bug DH to help me plan our vacation. Last year, we were too lazy to commute (because Mark’s car was at the repair shop the entire time we were there) so we stayed at the house most of the time. We even found going to the mall a chore because we were commuting! This year, we must make the most of our stay. No lazy bones allowed. We intend visit our Ninang Cora and her family in Quezon City. We also want to see our Ninong Tim at the Ateneo. Aside from that, there will be meet ups with DH and my friends.

As early as now, I should be looking for a weight loss pill that works so that I can loose these excess fat. I will accumulate more, for sure! Our daily meals are being prepared by my mother in-law who is a goddess in the kitchen. Everyone loves everything that she cooks! My absolute favorite is her Pork Sisig. I can only eat it once (or twice a year if I get lucky) so I savor every meal that it’s served. Aside from that, we all love desserts.

I can’t wait!

Daydreaming

After my unfortunate experience of an unsuccessful pregnancy, I have *decided* that I don’t want another child again. But then, upon seeing a lot of babies and little boys and girls during the Sunday morning Mass today made me rethink about that decision. Seeing those little ones made me remember of my need to see an OB-GYN soon for my myoma and maybe ask him or her to help me prepare for my next pregnancy. Seeing the kids’ cute sandals also made me want to shop for little and cute pink stuff again.

Oh well. That’s just me. Daydreaming. Again. ‘Til next Sunday! Haha!

Yesterday, my former college professor visited our office and saw DD. She commented how slim and lanky DD is. I was defensive while I explained that my daughter is well-fed, takes three different multi-vitamins and is not being given appetite suppressants. In fact, after her big meals, she immediately looks for something to snack on. After her big meals. That’s how big her appetite is. But then, just like her Dad, she is skinny. Unlike me! Waaah! If I could only donate my fats to her. Hahaha!

Anyways, as long as she is fed well and not sickly, I am OK with her weight. It is more difficult to slim down an obese child, right?

Plans for Today

Good morning!!! For a change, I am blogging early in the morning. Simply because I slept early last night and it feels good to have a 9-hour sleep. Aside from that, pages are loading faster during this time so browsing through websites is a breeze.

It’s a weekend and there’s a lot to do around the house, especially when we went away last weekend. My daughter already started putting away some of her stuff last night. I also began clearing our refrigerator’s top and discovered some expired weight loss pills that I bought last year. Yikes. And there are more in one of our drawers. Yikes, yikes. Anyway, more cleaning up will be done later today and tomorrow. Our laundry girl will be arriving today too. Yay! DD and I will also do some grocery shopping around lunch time. Blogging and other online tasks will be done later too.

It’s a weekday but I am home. I have been feeling sick since yesterday, that’s why. DD has been sneezy since we arrived in Davao City but that did not stop her from being rowdy, talkative and sassy. Haha! I don’t think that I got the virus from her though. Yesterday, one working student of ours decided that spraying of insect repellant early in the morning was a good idea. To get rid of the mosquitoes, he said. The odor was terrible, as you can guess! Oh well.

Aside from a slight fever, I also have a sore throat and stuffy nose. Bad.

Looking Forward

I received a text message yesterday from one of my brothers in-law, Mark. He shared that the housing loan was finally filed and we are all hoping that everything will turn out fine so we can spend the holidays in a nice and big house. It’s a need all right, because of our ever growing family. With three kids, it would be nice to have a lawn where they can play and run while adults lounge on comfortable chairs with nice outdoor pillows. I will also ask our in-house interior designer and another brother in-law, Ted, to make sure that there will be good tables so we can choose to work outside when the weather is nice.

With a new house and the kids getting bigger, it will be another memorable Christmas vacation for sure!

Searching Again.

Our recent long weekend was spent in a nice hotel in Davao City. It’s the place where my husband usually stays when he’s there. On our third day during breakfast at the cafe, we were surprised to chance upon his friend. He and hubby discussed about their future plans since both their working contracts are about to expire before the year ends. My husband shared that he has been sending applications to organizations similar to his recent one. His friend, on the other hand, is eyeing a company that deals with fulfillment house. He said that working there can be challenging and fulfilling. But since I am not really familiar nor interested about it, I just let them talk and turned to my daughter instead, who was feasting on her Jollibee breakfast. Haha!

A friend in the US told me her BIL is into paintball war games. At the time we were chatting, she mentioned her BIL asked her to canvass Paintball pants because he finds having one customized here is expensive. An Unconventional Look

It is an interesting fact to know that in some states in the US, medical use of marijuana is allowed. Returning back to office work makes me miss one thing: bonding time with DD and DH before bedtime. Basically it’s because I have to stay up late and work on online tasks. I miss chatting with DD and DH on how their day went at school and office. I miss hearing DD’s prayers, who’s on her list of persons who must be renewed by God. LOL! I miss the incessant kulitan of DH and DD minutes before we finally fall asleep. I may be with them but I miss my family.

But DH understands. In fact, he is very encouraging. I am an OFW, a term coined by Chikai. It stands for Online Filipino Worker. LOL! DH is very understanding and supportive. We both know that this is not forever. Strike while the iron is hot, so to speak. I do spend some of my earnings to some shopping but most of it now goes to DD’s college fund. Since two, she wanted to go to one of the best (and most expensive) universities in the country. We are slowly but surely saving up for that. Plus we promised her an overseas trip in a year or two. We are saving up for that also.

So even if it’s tough, we sacrifice. We find time and ways to make up. And this coming weekend is one great opportunity to do so because we are going somewhere nice! Yay! And thanks to our jobs (online and offline), we can afford to do so. Ahh… Bliss.

My One Child

This one I read from Litzie’s blog:

“A hare, upon meeting a lioness one day, said reproachfully: “I have always a great number of children while you have only one or two now and then.”The lioness replied, “That is true, but my one child is a lion.”

There is one person at work with five children who seemed to think of the decision to have one child is absurd. That is why she tells me to conceive again every time she gets a chance and boy, I get really piqued by her! She never fails to make us (myself and 2 other friends who each has one child) that our choice is bad and hers is good.

OK, I am ranting here but I don’t think that it is a sin to make sure that all of my daughter’s needs are met, that she is and will be educated at the best schools and that she can enjoy life’s pleasures like being able to eat the food she wants, buy books and toys, travel and visit places, get the best medical attention when needed and more. When it comes to our daughter, compromising is a no-no.

And DD has been making us proud with her small and big achievements. And I am not only talking about school. She is great in dealing with people of all ages. She is very independent-minded and creative. Beautiful inside and out and very, very smart.

I am not a lioness but I have one for a child. :)

Useful Medical Information

Because we put high value on research, almost all of our graduating students in our university are required to submit a thesis before they graduate. Some of our nursing students this year read about Medical Marijuana Colorado and were interested to conduct an experimental research on medical use of marijuana.

Our students wanted to prove if cannabis can effective in treating various ailments like arthritis, asthma, epilepsy, glaucoma, schizophrenia, migraine and others, based on the House of Lords report, The Therapeutic Uses of Cannabis - Second Report, 2001. But unlike some states in the US, medical use of marijuana is not allowed in our county yet so their research can’t be implemented yet. Good thing there are forums like MedicalMarijuanaGroup.com that promotes awareness on this matter.

That goes into our to-do list. Dancing together, that is. If my memory serves me right, the only time we danced was during our wedding day. We should definitely dance together some time. It sounds fun, even if we’ll definitely look and feel funny. LOL!

The “Visitation”

Ola! How was your day? Mine was pretty laid back. The "*gods* will be paying the university a visit next week and many of us there are getting stressed with the needed preparation. Nothing should look out of place. That is why everything is being prepared. Down to the last details and papers.

We even got a new kind of trash boxes (which I have yet to see and obviously was created for the visit) and I was tasked to make the signs – Biodegradable, Non-Biodegradable and Recyclable. Which made me ask why me? The university has their so-called in-house artist. But why me? A friend said that maybe because they (the admin) trust my so-called designing skill. LOL! I once created the design of a tarpaulin of the university’s Vision-Mission displayed in all classrooms and even canteens and all offices of the school. That made them trust me again? LOL!

Anyways, I hope that it is going to be an easy task. I will work on them tomorrow. But first, I must know the size that they want, right?

And aside from that task, we shall also be looking into prettifying the office. My boss asked me if it’s too early to put up our Christmas decors and I said YES! He is excited, obviously! But I suggested that we put some indoor plants instead and he agreed.

Well here’s to the visit! And may we gain what we’re working hard for.

“Migraining” Again

Happy Sunday, everyone! Unfortunately, I was not able to go out with DH and DD today to attend the Mass and do some grocery shopping. I am suffering from migraine again due to lack of sleep and stress, plus the humidity. I can’t afford to be absent from work tomorrow nor miss DD’s dancing at one of the public elementary schools here, along with her group mates.So I rest.

Migraine can really paralyze me. The same way that dysmenorrhea does. It is that horrible. That is why I need to really rest and try to get more sleep. As much as possible, I do not want to depend much on pain relievers even if I have low tolerance for pain. But if it becomes intolerable anymore, I pop a pill. There is always one ready, just in case. Drinking a lot of Gatorade helps too but I can’t get a good sleep if I keep on getting up to urinate.

I hope to feel better soon because it’s no fun being sick.

Welcome to the world, Jose Joaquin!

One of my BFF Marijo, just gave birth! Woot! It’s a healthy baby boy and I am one proud godparent! Hopefully, I can go and visit the new mom and baby tomorrow afternoon. We have been praying long and hard for baby Jose Joaquin and we are just too happy to finally see him. :) I am proud of Marijo who was able to nurture and now, give birth to her much-awaited son. I know she will make a good mother. I know she will. :)

Our Little Ballerina

“Namamayagpag ang career ni Therese sa pagsayaw!” (Therese’s dancing career is flourishing!)

That’s the thought that came into my mind when last night, we received another Parents’ Consent form from DD’s school. A Children’s Peace Advocacy Program is being implemented in three public elementary schools in the city and their group is once again invited to perform their ever famous interpretative ballet dance!

Their first performance as a group from the university was during the gathering of heads of schools in the area. The second one could have been during the launching of the Vocation Month at the Cathedral but due to the heavy downpour that morning, we were not able to go. This will be their third time and I am more than excited for her. I wish I would be able to see her perform tomorrow but unfortunately, I can’t because I am a participant in a training at the university. Fortunately, there will be another performance come Monday. Hopefully, her Dad and I can watch. :)

Problem: Simplicity

It was a fine day until I confirmed that DH was also thinking of the very same gift that I was supposed to buy him. I finally confessed and he pointed out that he does not really need my gift and will think of another instead. Though he was insisting that we go and buy me that gift. Hmp. What a spoiler.

A Night to Remember

We had a sumptuous and memorable dinner tonight, thanks to my mother. It was a long time since the three of us (my 2 younger brothers), my parents, my husband and daughter were all together. My younger brother is home for 4-day vacation and it has been ages (like 1 1/2) years since we last saw him. It was a birthday, anniversaries and Christmas celebration. It was held in a nice restaurant here in the city. All that we ordered taste good (thanks to me who picked the menu. Haha!). Everyone was full indeed. But they do not have any desserts so we transferred to another restaurant for buko halo-halo and chocolate cake. Many photos were taken but nah, I am too tired to download them from the memory cards (there were 3 cameras!) and upload them here. Hehe.

We had a grand time. We enjoyed the food and most of all, just being together again. I hope it won’t be the last time!

Welcome Home!

My younger brother arrived from Manila today and we are very happy to see him again. It’s been one and half years since we last saw each other. He is my more favorite brother, actually. Just don’t tell our youngest brother. LOL! He loves to cook and what he prepares are usually yummy. He is more sensible to talk to.

He is here for a 4-day vacation but we hope to see him again come December. Welcome home, Drei!

Buko Pandan Salad Recipe by Glo

I have been meaning to make a Buko Pandan Salad last week but due to my work load, I completely forgot about it. Coming home so tired everyday made me miss our cooking stove. Honestly. Simply because the understanding Husband did all the cooking. I am one lucky wife indeed!

Anyways, I looked for the recipe through Google and this one ranked 2nd in the search. FYI, the author is one of my dear online friends, Glo! Woot!

And without further ado, here’s Glo’s buko pandan recipe:

Difficulty: Easy
Prep Time: 3 hrs
Yields: 15-20 people

Ingredients:
2 package unflavored gelatin
3 cups water
1 tbsp. pandan essence
5 drops green food color
1/2 cup sugar

1 bottle of palm seed (kaong)
1 bottle of cooked sago (tapioca pearls)
2 package frozen buko meat (roughly 4 cups)
1/2 tsp. pandan essence
2 small cans Nestle all purpose cream
1 cup half and half or whole milk is fine as well
1 can condensed milk

Procedure:
Defrost buko packages inside your refrigerator.

Dissolve gelatin and sugar in 2 cups water and bring to boil, add remaining 1 cup water. Turn of heat, stir in 1 tbsp of pandan essence and green food. Transfer to a flat container, preferably a shallow baking sheet to allow quick setting. Make sure your pan is filled only up to around 1″ deep. Refrigerate and allow to set for 2 hours. When set, run a small knife along the formed gelatin horizontally and vertically creating 1″ dices.

In a large bowl, take cream, milk and condensed milk and 1/2 tsp of pandan essence and whisk all together. Drain liquid and syrup from buko strings, kaong and sago then toss all ingredients.

Keep refrigerated until ready to serve.

Flood in Maguindanao

It was a productive day, work-wise. I was tasked to join the team that did an ocular visit in a flooded area in Maguindanao in the morning. I was shocked with what I saw and I feel for the residents of the area. Many houses are immersed in flood water and many of these houses were abandoned by the residents. Bancas can be seen everywhere too. There was a large part of a national highway that is also immersed in flood, making it difficult to access.

Seeing all of these is frustrating. One can’t help but feel very sorry for the internally displaced persons (IDP). We are not new to IDPs. We have seen many of them in the past and present because of the armed conflict. But this time, it’s mother nature’s revenge and it’s quite new. It’s disturbing and more scary. Everyone must act together to alter the situation and make sure that things will not get even worse.

A Grand Christmas Gift

As early as now, I am thinking of buying something grand for my daughter come Christmas time. We have been generously blessed this year and I think that dear daughter deserves something nice.

I am thinking of getting her a PS3 perhaps. (It will not only be enjoyed by her of course. She has parents who are crazy about computer games too!) But as expected (because I know him so well by now), my husband contradicts! Aside from being too expensive, it won’t aid her learning, according to him. And since I am a relatively obedient wife, I told him that there’s still time for me to think about my decision. Or for me to make him change his mind. Haha!

Back!

I finally got my internet connection back. I think. And I hope it’s for good. It’s been like two weeks (I actually stopped counting some days ago) and even if I enjoyed my time away from my computer, I still need to work online (and chat, check my FB and many more. :D)

I called the Smart Bro customer service hotline to ask for rebates (against DH’s will. Story about it will be shared in a bit.) but the CSR asked me to monitor my connection for 24 hours to see if it’s stable. If it will be, I can call them back tomorrow and make the request again.

And the kwento: DH initially thought that it (rebates) was not mentioned in the contract whatsoever. Maybe it’s nonexistent, he insisted. He asked me to check online and I did. But since I was too lazy to intensively look, I just dialed *1888 (using his phone! LOL!) to ask. ;) It’s easier that way, right?

Hopefully (and I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed), this connection stabilizes and that I won’t be encountering the same concern ever!

So… Thanks, Smart Bro! And don’t do that again ever, OK? OK.

And I survived!

My first day back to work, that is. My 2-month break did not afford me with a grand vacation similar to those famous Branson vacations but I surely enjoyed the luxury of not rushing in the morning and just working and playing online while DD and DH were away during the day. Moreover, I got to practice my not-so commendable culinary skills. :)

Anyways, today, DD woke up so early that I was forced to get up early too. DH prepared our meal and we left the house 40 minutes before DD’s flag ceremony.

Work was slow. I was still trying to think of things that I need to accomplish. One is to hold a meeting with a group of student leaders tomorrow. Some were anticipating the reprimand coming from moi since they also took a leave of absence from doing their duties while I was away. But then, I don’t think it’s worth the wrinkles. LOL!

Lunch was so nice. DD and I spent it with our usual lunch mates plus a new friend. We had a feast! When Therese went back to her classroom, I went to the the SmartBro office to complain. They said that repair is still ongoing. Hay. And I also bought a prepaid kit from them too. (Which I am using right now.) I met Ate C and J at the small mall where I did some errands. And since I had difficulty with my high high-heeled sandals this morning, I bought a new pair! Hehe. Some treats were bought for the kids and the adults too. :)

All in all, it was a good day. I am tired but it’s nice to be back and see my friends again. And if there is one important thing that inspires me to go back to the academe, it’s the presence of my friends there. DH knows that and that’s the first on his list when I asked him to remind me again why I need to go back to work. ;)
