P is for Priorities

What a day, may I say. I woke up at around 4:15 in the morning to the explosions from an initially unknown source. Knowing the recent events and the war between the MILF and the AFP, I was alarmed, thinking that a nearby town might be attacked. So I got up and went online. I had my earliest cup of coffee while waiting for the news on the radio. I also heard the siren coming from an ambulance or a fire truck. I was not sure. At around 5 AM, I learned that an army detachment’s armory exploded. I was relieved. My father also sent and SMS informing me about it. Hay. One of my friends who lived near the area later related her experience. They were initially panicking and were so afraid. She even joined her sister who hid under their table! And while there, she realized that that’s how scary it is for them, how much for those who have been living in the war afflicted areas all their lives?

I later saw from the news that the amount of the old explosives (that exploded) housed in that armory amounted to Php 10 million! Huwat! Pardon my ignorance but I just can’t understand the government’s priorities. They have been spending much on bombs and guns when in fact, these money (OUR MONEY) should be used to build schools, provide livelihood, people empowerment and send children to school.

Here’s my two cents: war will not solve the peace and order problem in Mindanao. It is not and will never be the solution. And to those who are unaware and misinformed, it is NOT a war among beliefs and religions. There are insurgents here because there is injustice and unequal distribution of wealth. The gap between the poor and the rich is quite huge. And the government fails to bridge this gap as I see it.

PRIORITIES. PRIORITIES. Build schools and give their kids free education, provide enough opportunities to earn and give their families a decent life, give them the land to till and earn from and you will see that insurgency will cease. Spend on these, rather than on bullets and bombs.

Seek to build lives rather than destroy them.

Intramurals Preparations

Yay! It’s a Friday! We are going to have a half-day of work and this afternoon will start our long weekend in the observance of the All Souls’ Day. I am so looking forward to this mini-vacation as work has been stressful.

The preparation for the university’s intramurals/ festival has already started and it has been taxing not only on our part as student affairs practitioners, but more so on the part of our student leaders. The deliberation for the guidelines are all out, thank God for that! They are done with the solicitation letters for their sponsors. Next will be procurement of logistics and other needs like football trophies and trophies for other sports and socio-cultural contests, medals for the academic events, among others. They still have one month to prepare and I can feel the pressure that they’re facing. I just pray that with God’s guidance and our assistance, they can all pull through this and make this year’s festival a grand and memorable one.

Ang Pag-ibig, Parang Imburnal

While surfing the {we are} storytellers boutique for today’s trick or treat treats, a forwarded email from one of my brothers in-law, Mark, arrived. It is a fun and witty read and I thought of sharing it to you. Pardon to those who cannot understand Filipino. Here it goes:

How's your weekend? Mine was restful and filling. There was a little bit of drama but things can be discussed naman and peace is restored. Hehe. I have been slacking on updating this blog. However, I have been posting here and here - the blogs that I have been neglecting. Haha! Moreover, I am keeping my self busy, trying to come up and work around a system to make my digiscrapping life more systematic. You can read all about my jouney here. I hope hindi ako tamarin. Hehe.

Laptop, Homecoming, Work and Celebrations

Hello! Hello! How's your week so far? Mine is doing just great! And that's because my laptop is on its way to recovery! Yeah! We (instructions come from peku006) while I execute them. Who's peku006? I really don't know! All I know is that he/she has been so helpful in finding solution to my laptop problem. I will direct you to their forum once all is clear and clean. :)

It's already Wednesday! Yay! I was invited to join our Working Scholars who will be having their outing/ team building in a beach resort this weekend. However, I declined because a super favorite cousin who I overly miss will be coming home! Yay! He left last July for a good opportunity in Manila. He's a talented one so he got invited to work in one major businesses in the country upon graduation. We are so proud of him! He is around here somewhere for a youth camp and it will be over on Saturday which gives him ample time to come home. However, he might be leaving the following day due to work. Oh well...

I am now a member of our school's Technical Panel for Extension. Honestly, I don't know why they put me there, but I am happy to be there! There are lots of work for us in the upcoming month. This week, we had a meeting and we will be hold an audience with the City Mayor to let him know of our projects and programs either tomorrow or Friday.

Moreover, I intend to revise some guidelines and process regarding our school organizations' operations. I will be concentrating on that and then present them to the boss. Hopefully, I will get his approval so wish me luck!

To Be Stress-Free...

I am actually hitting the sack in a bit because of what I read here. Hehe. Thanks, babycobalt for sharing the list and for the tip!

Laptop update: Me thinks that my laptop is *slowly* recovering. I am grateful too, to the person, who is actually a stranger, who has been helping me in the *cleaning* process. His/ her effort confirms that there are in this time when the easiest and safest way is to distrust others, there still are good people out there who are willing to help people they do not know. Thank you, thank you, peku006! More power to you!

And with that, I am calling it a night. You all have a lovely night/day wherever you are!

Manic Monday?

I have been having two sleepless nights because of this nasty trojan named Virtumonde. Good thing someone is helping me in the process of healing my poor laptop. I hope that I will get the "all clean" line very soon so I can get on with my life. Hehe.

Well, it's the first day of the work week. I was not able to accomplish much (since I am very bothered with my laptop problem, plus I have been staying up late because of it). Sshh... Haha! But tomorrow is another day and I have a meeting in the afternoon. I hope it will not be a tiring one.

Speaking of tiredness, I changed my multi-vitamins into one with iron. I think it's working as I don't feel that tired upon coming home today. I hope this goes on and on and on. :)

Counting the Days

Just a few more days and we're off to our much-anticipated yearly Christmas vacation! Two hours ago, we were able to talk with my parents in-law and two brothers in-law and I can sense their excitement about seeing us and being with us again. There will be a grand celebration once we arrive, they say. Sea's belated first birthday, my birthday and the grandest one, a surprise celebration for two special persons. Ted (my youngest brother in-law) informed me that we need to prepare as early as now so he asked me to talked to Mark (another brother in-law) - the main proponent of the event. We're pretty excited about this and I can't wait to pack our bags!

Going there is a break from preparing meals for my small family. But does not make me any slimmer! I know I have been babbling about it but my mother in-law cooks the yummiest food around! Those orovo diet pills can't do their trick if you near her. I already have a list of my favorite dishes that she prepare and I know she will indulge us once we get there. It's only once a year! Hehe. I am one lucky daughter in-law, I know. ;)

Semestral Break and the Occassional Cook

School's over at the university where I work. Our students are enjoying their semestral break, even for just a week. Yey to them!

On the other hand, we will have our hands full since we are planning to do so many things while school is out. There will be meetings and meetings and did I say meetings?

I grabbed my chance to cook a decent meal for my family tonight. I always feel proud whenever I do that. Though I miss going to the wet market and find the best and freshest ingredients. Due to our schedules we have to buy them at the mall. I used to buy fresh shrimps for vegies but now, I have to contend myself (and family) with preserved ones. Haay! However, we had a nice supper of ginisang munggo with pork and fried maya-maya. Yum! I am hoping for a mushroom and broccoli dish tomorrow, if my energy permits! Amazingly, the girl is loving my broccoli and pork but the Husband requested for other vegies and not just plain broccoli. Haha! I was hoping to post of photo of what I cooked but I always forget because of hunger. Hehe.

I just hope that this week will be less stressful to give me ample chance and energy to cook for them again.

Third Sunday of October Roundup

Our Sunday was spent cleaning my laptop (I was and still am not successful though), attending the high noon Mass and shopping for groceries. I admit that I was kinda hungry when we shopped so I bought junk foods which I usually ignore when we pass by them. I told Hubby that that's what I call food trip. Haha! I justified that most of them will be brought at work, so it was approved. :D

Upon coming home, I tried taking a nap but it was too hot here. I don't know if I was able to snooze. Later, the Husband noticed a group of carolers who passed by. It was too early for Christmas caroling, I know. But they did not sing for us, no sir! They chose those houses with big and expensive gates! Haha! Their first stop was the two-storey house beside us that has an outdoor lighting that literally lits up the entire neighborhood! We don't usually turn ours on because of that. Hehe. I wonder how expensive their monthly electricity bill is. But I thank them for letting us save on ours. :D

Our Smart Girl

How silly of me to forget to post this! Our little girl made us proud when she got an academic award as a third honor (rank 3) during their first grading period. Unfortunately, we were not able to accompany her to receive the award because I was feeling so sick that day that I had to see my doctor while the smart girl was going up the stage to receive the award. Wes on the other hand, was on business trip. Good thing my Mama was around to be with her on that special day and my good Papa drove me to the clinic. Thanks Mama & Papa!

It will be their second periodical exams this week and we should be preparing for it. However, the girl chose playing over studying. Haha! I don't *usually* force her to review her notes if she does not like it since it will just frustrate us both. But most of the time, she reads and reviews them herself. I am equally amazed with her reading skills. But still, she is too lazy to write. Haha! Like father, like daughter!

Nasty, Nasty Virus!

My precious weekend was spend trying to annihilate an annoying trojan, which I don't know where I got. And so I thought I've removed the nasty Virtumonde trojan virus. Aaargh... This pest kept me awake last night. Thorough scanning courtesy of Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware and Spybot's Search & Destroy informed me what the problem was. They both "removed" the trojan but further online research showed that removing this is not an easy task. My sleepless nights might make loose weight without the aid of fat burners. Haha!

I joined Spybot's S&D and I am keeping my fingers crossed. I don't want to reformat! It's daunting and I hate re-installing applications again. *sigh* But if I get frustrated, I will just bring this to the experts and let them do their thing. Haha!

So wish me luck. I feel affected when this *baby* of mine gets *sick* so I am storming the heavens with prayers!

A Walk Down the Memory Lane

As far as I remember, I had an easy pregnancy with our first born. The only thing that I despised that time was the smell of chicken barbecue. I thought it was awful and I was particular annoyed with the street vendors who sold them. Haha!

Preparing the nursery was one activity that I was too excited about sans the prices of the high cost of baby stuff and furniture. Good thing my parents financially aided us in this area. Instead of giving me birthday presents that year, several relatives and friends gifted us with various baby stuff to help us prepare for the little one's arrival. When we finally learned the baby's gender through ultrasound, I was ecstatic. My instinct of having a daughter inside me was confirmed and I was overwhelmed with joy. It was exhilarating!

As a first-time mom, I needed all the help that I could get so when I gave birth, I joined a local parenting e-group that tremendously helped me in adjusting to my life as a first-time mom. This support group provided answers to questions that seemed silly and yet important, like how to administer medicines that despised by toddlers or what are the toys appropriate for my 2-year old kid. These and more were addressed by those helpful parents. Some of them were veterans and some were first-time moms like me. However, what bound us was our desire to be the best parents to our children and to help these God-given gifts to us be the persons that He wanted them to become. It's not an easy task, I know. But as long as there are people who are ready to support and the Man Up There is there to guide, parenting is a ride that is worth taking.

Work and Gatorade and Graduation

Lots of contests to write about, plus some tags (missed doing those). I will try to post some here tonight. I have a bring-home assignment which must be submitted to the boss before 9 AM tomorrow morning so what the heck am I doing here? Haha!

Work week started awfully stressful. I attended a meeting on behalf of my boss and I felt sorry for our student leaders who had to experience the "panggigisa" of some administrators. Hay. Exam week pa naman! Anyways, good thing there are other people (aside from moi) who are supportive of them and who trust their judgment.

We have several pending disciplinary cases and I am not saying I anticipate dealing with the them. No sir! But it's part of the job so the Hubby loaded the refrigerator with bottles of Gatorade in case of a migraine attack. (A friend who also suffers from an attack from time to time recommended to take 2 bottles of Gatorade to ease the pain. I tried it and it worked!)

It's exams week at the university. Time flies so fast that we are about to start the second semester in two weeks' time! For the graduating students, that will be their last five months at the university. Yay!

Anyway, that's office life for me so far. I hope yours is better. :)

Instead of Fresh Flowers

Upon coming home from a social event, along with my ordered bottles of Gatorade and a Chuckie drink for the girl, the Hubby was carrying this:Of course, I was ecstatic! (Seems that it's my favorite word for the day ha. Hehe.) But what thrilled me more was this line from him:

"Mahirap humanap ng fresh flowers dito kaya ito na lang binili ko."

("It's hard to find fresh flowers here so this is what I bought instead.")

My man is not your typical romantic kind of guy. So this is a nice surprise! Yeah, I am lucky! :)

Second Weekend Roundup for October

Just as I expected, we had a relatively relaxing and restful weekend. So restful that I only found time to go online this afternoon. Haha! We attended the first birthday of Jyrus - a first cousin's son. There were some drama before going because of a girl who got piqued while we were playing some minutes before leaving for the party. I was slightly annoyed with her Dad too, who seemed to be taking his sweet time. So I left. Alone. And when I got to the party's venue, an ongoing drama was unfolding too! Should I say it's in the blood??? Haha!

Anywho, they later followed and the girl, along with her Ate Mylene (Jyrus' older sister) had a blast playing. Mylene, by the way, also cried when she did not get anything during the "pabitin" game. (It is one dramatic afternoon. Haay.) Therese did the same some years ago, during Mylene's birthday, when the same thing happened to her. That's why I don't like pabitins. I proposed to the girls that we'll buy stuff and put them in the pabitin and the two of them, just the two of them play and there'll be no more shedding of tears. Haha! We went home with a slice of the birthday cake which I devoured while watching Bridget Jones Diary, parts 1 and 2. Hehe. I remember watching the first part some years back, though I hardly appreciated it. But I do now! And I slept late because of the movie marathon. Haha!

Today, we woke up and attended Mass earlier than usual. We later went to the mall and bought the girl new toys. I have a relatively stress-free afternoon because the girl was ecstatic with her blocks and her doctor's set. She even picked up her stuff which has been lying around for some days now. But for how long can these stuff keep her amused and obedient? I don't know!

Anyways, here's a snapshot of the kiddos with Mommy. That's my generic name. Even some of my high school batchmates and some students in the university call me Mommy. And I am not complaining. :) (Notice the two girlies' smiles. They have been photographed by me for more than 5 years now, thus, they have their signature fake smiles for the cam. Jyrus, welcome aboard! And happy, happy birthday, sweetie! Love yah!)

Secondly, I want to KNOW you. Just YOU. Sans kids, the husband, just YOU. I have a lot of ME tags in my blog – you can use that. What do I want to read: You – Now. It can be as simple as “I love Coke.” or as complex as “I am the crossroads of my life.”

So here I am! Sans Photoshop editing ha. Hehe. This self-portrait was taken on the first day of the month.What I am going to share is related to work because this has been the most significant change that I've faced recently. About 2-3 months ago, I was transferred to another office and assigned with new tasks which are more demanding, energy and patience-consuming. This was not the original plan. I was supposed to transfer to another office which could have utilized my creative skills. However, God has other plans and He placed me where I am right now - where I am more needed. I love my new job, despite the detractors and the stress that goes with it.

I can't say that this is the best job coz it's not. Since I transfered there, I can hardly prepare a decent dinner for my family anymore. I hate going home feeling so wasted! I've also developed migraine and am anemic (again). I was not even promoted! However, I am privileged to work with our best students and at the same time, deal with the problematic ones. Just imagine my anxiety whenever I see a security guard approaching our office! A visit from one could mean another disciplinary case which needs to be dealt with. It's not a bed of roses, really.

Remember that we are nanny-less. Thus, I am grateful to my understanding husband who makes up for what I fail to do, to my father who is always there to support and assist and take care of us, and to my daughter who understands that Mommy is tired and can't read her a book. They understand that I need this job, not just for financial reasons but more importantly, for professional growth. This is a big break given to me and I am very grateful to the persons who trusted me with this.

More than ever, I now look forward to weekends - to just being with my husband and kid. I know they make me crazy but still, they keep me grounded and sane. They help me cope with the challenges that I have to face each day. I look forward to spending time online, to trying to scrap a page even if I fail, reading books which have been collecting dusts and praying. These keep me sane. Yes, the house is still messy. And I still need to organize, be more healthy and disciplined. But for now, I don't want to make my life more difficult. Balance can be a tough thing but I am holding on for I believe that this is temporary and better days are coming.

Who's Slacking?

Me! Me! Pardon me for being a slacker. Work has extracted the limited energy that I have. What I hated most about this job is dealing with disciplinary cases. Why oh why can't they just study?? This week has been fully loaded with such concern. Just this afternoon, we had one complaint and I attended a meeting that involves student discipline (but with grave offenses). Early this week, I attended two disciplinary case hearings for two days and then later prepared the necessary documents - sanctions and MOAs and all. I have yet to finish the transcription of the final case hearing. Aaargh... I also dealt with two days and nights of a bad migraine attack. Aside from that, I have been anemic so I was like a walking zombie the end of the day!

And before I forget, our detractors are at it again! They (whoever they are) have been sending anonymous and nasty text messages to our boss regarding us, his staff. There is nothing we can do about it because they don't want to fight fair. All I can do is pray for them and pity them because after all, they obviously live an unhappy life. As for me, I might be stressed out but I love my work, I have a family that loves me despite of, I have hobbies that keep me entertained and I have friends who keep me sane. ;)

I was telling some student leaders that I will be retiring soon (as if I am on the retirement age! Haha!) The only consolation that I get from this work is that I get to work with them and if their claims are true, they love me! Haha! I love them too and if there is one thing that prevents me from transferring to the *original* office that initially wanted to adopt me is THEM. Working with them and for their development, assisting them realize their full potential is fulfilling and rewarding. The migraine and the detractors look insignificant beside those guys and gals. :)

First and foremost, THANKS TO EVERYONE who left comments on this post. I got 10! Thank you from the bottom of my heart! :) You are all so sweet! It's been 6 long years and 1 kid, to those who are wondering. Hehe.

As much as I wanted to write a long post, I can't for now. Work and domestic concerns have been draining my energy. All I want to do now is just sleep. I have not been online yesterday, thus, my effort to stay awake now and check-in.

Happy Anniversary to Us!

This is late but it's worth posting. :) It was our wedding anniversary last September 21, 2008! We offered a thanksgiving Mass and in the evening, we prepared a simple dinner for some relatives and friends. It was also the Our Lady of Penafrancia's feast day, our subdivision's patroness so it was somehow a double celebration. Fortunately, we were able to take photos before going to the church and here's a decent one with the help of a tripod:Happy anniversary, Babe! Here's to more years of living and loving and dreaming and working hard to make those dreams come true! I love you so very much and I am so blessed to have you and the little girl. You two make me crazy most of the time but you mean the world to me!

A Happy Sunday

Hello and happy Sunday evening! I am happy to report that it was indeed a happy Sunday for us and personally, for me. We woke early for an early breakfast. The Hubby decided to sleep again after eating. Hah! He was complaining about joint pains and was blaming the prawns that we had for two consecutive nights and the crabs which he was ate during a lunch meeting. On the other hand, the girl was still coughing though she had a grand time playing with her paper dolls beside her sleeping dad. And I was typing away - updating my digiscrapping blog. We went to Mass around 11:30 AM though a little girl was thinking of every possible reason not to go - sleepy, headachy, etc. We promised that we'll just pray and then go home, no more malling afterwards. However, in the middle of the Mass, she proclaimed that she was not sleepy anymore and she pleaded that we go visit the mall! Haha!

Anyways, once we were there, she reminded me of my promise to buy her new school shoes and so the Dad did. Hehe. We did grocery shopping afterwards and the hubby also bought me some new boxer shorts. Yay! Upon coming home, we had a late lunch and then slept! I woke up around 6PM and cooked supper. All in all it was a relaxing day. The girl and her Dad were relatively cooperative and co-existed harmoniously so I did not find it necessary to nag. Haha! Life is good. :) And I am all ready to face the challenges and joys of the upcoming week!

The Week That Was

It's been a while and I can't believe that I have not posted for about a week! It was a crazy week actually. We had a two-day break (just when I did not need them!) - Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday was a happy day. The three of us spent the entire morning playing computer games, those arcade-reflex kind of game. It was fun, fun, fun! In the afternoon, I was set to meet a friend who came home from Dubai - JD. We've known each other since high school days and we have a lot in common. I always love hanging out with her because she is such a positive person. How I wish that I can say that we are alike in that way but I can't! Haha! I am a big time whiner, remember? I always feel happy and cheerful after talking with her. And we, her friends are so lucky and blessed to have her. Anyways, we visited and had snacks with two more friends who unfortunately had to work that day - Marijo and Jen. Afterwards, we ate (again) in a favorite cafe. Oh, the father and daughter, along with my father had a grand time shopping for groceries while I had my time with my friends. They understood that I needed it. One thing that I like about spending time with my high school friends is that they make being crazy look normal. Haha! We are a crazy bunch and we can spend days just talking and laughing and eating and goofing around. Totally crazy.

Anyways, Wednesday, another holiday, was spent tidying up the house. It's not that we were able to accomplish much. Haha!

Thursday and Friday and today - work, work, work! I have been assisting our student leaders in finalizing their guidelines for their intramural. Hopefully, they can finish them this coming week. I have other pending tasks but I needed to focus on them first.

Despite the mid-week break, I am still looking forward to this weekend. I would love to sleep and sleep and sleep. However, I have a sick kid to attend to again. Haay. I wish this coughing and sniffing will go away. Now na!

So there goes my week. I had a digishopping spree just today and I hope to share my loot in my digiscrapping blog (which is equally neglected).
