Saving Tips

With the rising cost of basic commodities, what do you do to save up? Here are some of what my family does to at least cope with the hard days:

First, we got rid of our expensive helper/ caregiver and bought a washing machine instead! This is more practical since Therese is already 5 and does not need much caring compared to when she was younger. With the new washing machine, we do the laundry at least once or twice a week. This does only help us save on water but also on electricity. The weather here is usually hot so we do not need a spin drier.

Second, we save used water (like the one used for bathing or laundry) and use them to flush. This we learned from my parents in-law when we visited them. This and doing the laundry once or twice a week greatly reduced our water bill to almost 50%.

Third, we stock up on fish, vegetables and fruits instead of junk foods. We usually buy groceries with a full stomach since hunger moves us to buy more junk. Aside from that, I usually cook what we can consume at one meal time to avoid wastage.

Fourth, we unplug unused appliances. As testified by others, this is one sure way to cut on your electricity bills. Even if they are turned off, these appliances still use electricity. Thus it is wise to unplug them.

Speaking of electricity, I am amazed to discover that in other countries, consumers can avail of cheap electricity since they have choices when it comes to energy-provider. You see, in our place, an energy-providing company monopolizes the market. It would be amazing to have the freedom to choose the company where we can get cheap electricity. Imagine the amount that we can save with that! I can buy my DSLR in no time! Seriously, companies like Stream Energy does a great job in providing people with a smarter choice. They obtain electricity through a variety of sources to bring their consumers some of the lowest rates in the industry. For me, that is business with conscience! I hope that they can bring this too in third world countries like ours.
